WIAA Softball Postseason Begins This Afternoon

Greenfield, Whitnall hosting first-round games at home.

The Greenfield softball team will begin its quest for a fifth berth in the WIAA State Softball Tournament when it opens regional competition this afternoon.

The Hustlin' Hawks (17-6), seeded third in Sectional 8, will host 14th-seeded Milwaukee South at 4:15 p.m. at .

The top two seeds in the sectional are Kenosha Bradford (22-2) and Muskego (16-8). Sixth-seeded South Milwaukee (14-5) won the sectional a year ago, beating Greenfield in a sectional semifinal.

Greenfield and South Milwaukee could meet again this postseason, this time in a regional final Thursday. The Rockets defeated the Hawks twice during the regular season.

In Sectional 6, seventh-seeded Whitnall (11-7) will host 10th-seeded Waukesha West (9-10) at 4:30 p.m. today at Schoetz Park in Hales Corners.

The Falcons lost in a regional final a year ago.

The winner will play either second-seeded Watertown (15-6) or 15th-seeded West Allis Central (2-15) in a regional final Thursday. Watertown won the sectional a year ago and advanced to the state semifinals.
