MKEFFB - Patch's Fantasy Football Blog - Week 13

MKEFFB 2011 Week 13 - Patch.com's Fantasy Football Blog

You are only one game away from the playoffs... or an extended break from one of your favorite pastimes. Hopefully, this reaches those of you who have already secured a playoff spot and are fighting for seeding.

For others, somewhere in the middle, there are two leagues where I am fighting for my fantasy football life. So, I’m right there with you.

What did we learn from the Matt Leinart start?

Absolutely nothing, he was who we thought he was. T.J. Yates doesn’t seem to be a better option either. On an interesting note, Jake Delhomme is the #2 quarterback for the Texans now. Not that he would reclaim his spot as a relevant fantasy player (see 2004 - 2006 Carolina Panthers), but it is nice to see him back with an NFL team where he might have a chance to play, after the “Cleveland experiment” last year.

Kyle Orton in Kansas City? Worth a shot?

Tyler Palko is getting “the start” this week. But both he and Orton split reps with the first team this week. I’m a strong supporter of “Neckbeard” and was one of his biggest supporters in the battle between Orton and Grossman for my Chicago Bears a few years back. But, I would not consider  Orton this year, by any means.  This week they play a solid Bears defense. In the playoff weeks of 14, 15, and 16 the Chiefs take on the Jets, Packers, and Raiders. All three have defenses I wouldn’t want my starting QB going against. I like Orton’s future prospects but not at all for the remainder of this year.

Who are some players, I would normally start, that I should consider benching this week?

Cedric Benson (Steelers are the #2 defense in the NFL and give up the 3rd fewest points), Brandon Jacobs (Bradshaw is practicing and might play), Rashard Mendenhall (Bengals have the 5th best rushing defense in the NFL).

Again good luck in your quest for a fantasy football championship.
