Simply and Quietly Be the Best That You Can Be

There's more reward than just a paycheck for doing your best at whatever work you find yourself doing.

I've read this one old book over and over again. It is a VERY good book.. About midway through it, there is a line, simple, straight forward, oh, so powerful.

It simply says, "seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings ... " (I personally even like it best  in its oldest English form.)

I heard Zig Ziggler say quite a number of years ago,"second milers never have to face a traffic jam."

While some fight to force their way to the top, while some will argue and accuse in order to manipulate in order that their point of view or their entitlements are ensured, there are always a few that apply themselves to simply and quietly being the best that they can be at what they do.

I remember watching  two brothers playing basketball out in the church parking lot a long time ago. Gregg the younger kept making shots from way outside. Jeff the older, getting hammered and, I imagine, a little embarrassed, breaths out this complaint as yet another shot from way outside dropped cleanly through the net, "aww, man, you're so lucky!"

Younger Gregg looks up at his older, bigger brother and with a smirk and an assured gleam in his eye, says, "You know, the more I practice the luckier I get."

I’ve never forgotten that. Just thought of that this morning while commenting on an article that (Greenfield Patch editor) David Cotey wrote about stopping by and – glad I was able to get that out of me.

This is all, of course, simply to say the race may not go always to the fastest runner, it might seem that demanding and forcing might be the only way to get noticed.

But there is a better way. God did not create you for mediocrity. He created you and is calling you to greatness. If you’ll just mind your business, do your best, strive for excellence in whatever you find yourself doing ... you will find yourself standing before Kings.
