Dan Jansen Family Fest Profits Not Yet Determined

Festival organizers should know how much the four-day event made next month, and then will decide how the profits will be spent.

Despite some rainy and foggy conditions, the 17th annual Dan Jansen Family Fest was a success.

Just how big a success likely won't be known until late July.

Dan Jansen Family Fest president Kathleen Doonan said by then all the bills for the event should be paid and she'll know how much the non-profit organization made on the four-day festival. From there, the Dan Jansen Family Fest board will discuss how the proceeds will be spent.

, festival profits have paid for the Greenfield Parks and Recreation Department's storage facility at Konkel Park, the fountain at Bicentennial Park and Canine DJ of the Greenfield Police Department. And last year the organization made a large donation to the Greenfield Community Center, which is expected to open July 9.

"We’ve discussed a number of different things, but it’s up to the board," Doonan said. "We don’t just turn a check over to anyone. It’s based on what the requests are and what we can provide.

"We’d rather do a big-bang project than just $1,000 here and $1,000 there. We have not, at this time, committed to anything."

Doonan said she was pleased with the festivals turnout, all things considered.

"We always would like more (attendee), but between the weather and the economy, it did have an impact on us," she said. "The crowds were small, but the people that were there had a great time."
