Green Bay Packer a 'Hero' for Greenfield Animal Shelter

Cornerback Jarrett Bush was named spokesman for the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center and was in Greenfield on Tuesday.

It’s not every day you can pencil in a Super Bowl hero as your spokesperson, but this week, the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center did just that.

Green Bay Packers cornerback Jarrett Bush, who intercepted Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger during the Packers' Super Bowl XLV victory last February, was in Greenfield on Tuesday for a photo shoot for the MARC’s “Hero” campaign.

Bush, the center’s new spokesperson, posed with several different animals, including , at MARC’s for a campaign aimed at generating donations for the center’s capital as well as bringing awareness to the no-kill animal shelter.

The “Hero” campaign asks for participants to pledge to raise at least $1 per day for at least one year.

“Animals don’t really have a voice,” said Bush, an animal lover who owns a Red Doberman named Piper. “I’m trying to be their voice.”

As part of the campaign, MARC will be giving away items autographed by Bush and other Green Bay Packers.

Bush and the Packers lost an NFC divisional playoff game Jan. 15, to the New York Giants after going 15-1 during the regular season. Bush said he was disappointed to not be preparing for another Super Bowl but said he’d take advantage of his time off to help causes like MARC.

“I’m just trying to get more people on board and hopefully get more fundraising and get people involved in the community,” Bush said. “It’s a great opportunity to be a part of a great cause. I love what (director) is doing; I love her work. To have a partnership with this community, Milwaukee and Green Bay, hopefully we can get some homes for these pets.”

The 27-year-old special teams captain is an unrestricted free agent and said he hopes to be back in Green Bay for training camp this summer so he and his teammates can get back toward working on another Super Bowl run.

“We didn’t put it together (against the Giants) that day,” Bush said. “We had higher expectations of what would happen, but sometimes that’s how it goes, how the business works. Fortunately, there is a next year.”
