Wheelchair Basketball Tournament is Friday, Saturday at Whitnall High School

Whitnall High School is hosting a four-team National Wheelchair Basketball Association tournament Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1. One game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday. Games Saturday begin at 8:30 a.m. and run every 2 hours throughout the day.

Teams will include the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Hornets, Grand Rapids Pacers, New York Knicks and the hometown Milwaukee Wheelchair Bucks, who began January undefeated (14-0) and ranked second in the nation. The Bucks feature 11 players who reside in Wisconsin, including University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s wheelchair basketball coach Jeremy Lade.

“Wheelchair basketball is an unbelievably fast-paced game with determined athletes who have learned to overcome their disabilities,” said Steve Wilson, Bucks coach and a Whitnall Middle School physical education teacher. “Fans will be amazed when they see what they can do, and we’re excited to showcase their incredible talents right here at Whitnall High School.”

Fans are encouraged to spend the day learning about and experiencing the excitement of wheelchair basketball. Admission is only $2 for adults, $1 for students and free for children ages 6 and under.
