Whitnall Girls Basketball Team Among the Top Academic Teams in Wisconsin

The Whitnall girls basketball team finished second in the 2014 Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association’s Team Academic All-State rankings, the organization announced earlier this month.

The Falcons’ cumulative GPA of 3.61 was second among nominated Division 2 girls programs to only La Crosse Central’s 3.72. Mosinee was third with a 3.53.

Helping Whitnall’s high finish was senior Krista Stribling, who was one of 16 girls chosen statewide (all divisions) to the 2014 WBCA Academic All-State team. She is the first Falcon to make the team since Kristin Affeldt after the 1999-2000 season.

“We’ve had a strong tradition of producing high-quality, student-athletes, who are committed to their work in the classroom and on the basketball court, or whichever sport they participate in,” Whitnall girls basketball coach Keith Larson said. “I’m extremely proud of the girls. We stress an emphasis on academic achievement, and this group excelled at that.”

Other team members included seniors Ann Marie Bay, Mary Gaggioli, Kaitlyn Kenaston, Candace Pollock and Emily Yahnke; juniors Jessa Abing and Liz Thon; sophomores Anna Haning, Jenna Jones, Madelyn Pelkofer and Kendall Stribling; and freshman Sierra Grubor.
