A proposal to build a Buddhist temple in a residential neighborhood west of 43rd Street and Edgerton Avenue in Greenfield faced many, many obstacles ranging from parking concerns to resident opposition. But perhaps the biggest - the city's decision not to vacate a half-acre of land that could be used in the future to build a street - has proven to be the biggest hurdle of all, so far. All property containing a house of worship is currently tax exempt. That is not the issue here. The issue is that the City of Greenfield is again treating one religion differently than it is another. The large lobbying skilled Ridge Church has been granted a tax exemption on a valuable piece commercial land.
