One Hawk Wrestler Making State Tournament Trek

Junior Tyler Dorfner pulled off a win in a second-place wrestleback Saturday to earn his first state tournament trip.

Greenfield High School junior Tyler Dorfner didn’t let two previous losses to Whitnall’s Ryan Olson phase him. In fact, his coach believes the 152-pounder used them to his advantage. Dorfner defeated the Whitnall sophomore, 7-5, in a second-place wrestleback at a sectional at Waukesha West on Saturday, and earned a spot in the WIAA Division 1 State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which begins Thursday. “Tyler felt that he had a shot when he arrived at Waukesha West,” Greenfield coach Chris Otto said. “He knew Connor Price from Muskego was going to be tough to beat and knew that he would more than likely have Ryan Olson from Whitnall in a wrestleback. “Tyler has worked hard all year and had some ups and downs. New GHS Wrestling Coach Wants to Build on Tradition

Chris Otto is in his first season as the Greenfield High School wrestling coach, one of two new local varsity head coaches this winter.

Chris Otto is familiar with wrestling tradition. He wrestled from 1991-95 at West Allis Central, a school rich in wrestling history, and returned to be a varsity assistant coach from 2001-07, helping guide two individuals to state championships and another to a state runner-up effort while the Bulldogs were firmly established as the team to beat in the Greater Metro Conference. He’s also aware of the tradition built at Greenfield, where Otto is now in his first year as head coach of the Hustlin’ Hawks’ varsity wrestling program. “I want to put my own identity on it, but make sure there is a good mesh with what was established here.,” Otto said. “Why fix it if it’s not broken?” After last year, some could say the program is damaged, if not …
