Updated 8:55 a.m. Tuesday, April 16 The search for the Greenfield School District’s new leader has ended with a familiar face rising to the top. Lisa Elliott, a former principal at Maple Grove Elementary School who worked for the district for 20 years, was introduced as the district’s new superintendent at a School Board meeting Monday. "I have truly been blessed and very lucky to be a part to this district and even more blessed to come back," said Elliott, who was joined by her husband Mike, daughter Emily and son Joe. Elliott beat out Dr. Lynette Zimmer, who has been the superintendent of Prairie Grove Consolidated School District 46 in Crystal Lake, Ill., since 2010. Elliott has been the Director of Curriculum and Instruction of the …

According to the firm conducting the search for Conrad Farner's replacement, the number is slightly higher than usual.
As the Greenfield School Board sets its sights on selecting a new superintendent, it will certainly have plenty of options to look at. Former superintendent Dr. Louis Birchbauer, who is now a consultant for the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, told Greenfield Patch on Wednesday that 20 candidates submitted applications for the opening created by Conrad Farner’s resignation in January. Birchbauer said typical superintendent searches yield 12-15 applicants. “It’s a high-end application pool,” Birchbauer said. “It’s a good candidate pool.” Birchbauer said size and location of the school district likely played a role in the higher than usual submitted applications. Birchbauer said he expects to have a list of candidates the School Board…

What do you think Greenfield is hiring a Superintendent of Schools for; if not for the education of the kids? She/he also needs leadership ability. Are you people so "thick" you don't get it?   more ›
The Greenfield School District interim superintendent brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new role, but don't expect him to make any bold or splashy moves in his four months on the job.
David Ewald is no hired gun. He isn’t riding into town with a massive ego or agenda he’s going to force-feed anyone. He’s not looking to put a big, bold stamp on the Greenfield School District announcing he came and went. Instead, Ewald, a former longtime superintendent in both Denmark and South Milwaukee, sees himself as a man with a niche. And it just so happens Greenfield is in need of someone with his skill set and expertise. Ewald was hired as the district’s interim superintendent earlier this month, and will bridge the gap between former superintendent Conrad Farner, who resigned in January, and the future leader of the district. “I don’t want to present the image that this school district is going to be built around me,” Ewald said…

The Greenfield School District has shifted gears again, and has decided to look for someone to fill the gap as officials search for a full-time superintendent to replace Conrad Farner.
The Greenfield School Board has shifted gears again in its search for a temporary replacement for former superintendent Conrad Farner. Over the last few weeks, the board debated giving a current administrator additional pay to perform the duties of both Farner and departing Director of Business Kristin Kollath. But on Wednesday, School Board President Bruce Bailey told Greenfield Patch the board is now focused on hiring an interim superintendent. Because the discussions to offer an administrator additional pay were held in closed session, Bailey would not comment on why that plan appears dead. “This is very, very unusual,” Bailey said. “We lost our superintendent mid-year and our business manager mid-year. But we’re looking at interim …

A series of focus group sessions have been scheduled for Feb. 21. Meanwhile, the board has re-shifted its focus to hiring an interim superintendent.
Parents, taxpayers, school staff and officials are invited to participate in focus groups next week, to help decide what the School District of Greenfield should look for in its new superintendent. The meetings are designed to let all stakeholders participate as district officials gather characteristics and qualities desired in the new district administrator, following the resignation of Conrad Farner last month. “It’s very important that we have everyone’s opinion,” School Board president Bruce Bailey said. “We ultimately have to make the decision, but we want everybody’s input. “We want to make sure we get the right person, someone who’s committed to the community and committed to education.” The five group meetings, to be held Feb. 21, …

Board members put off a decision to replace former Superintendent Conrad Farner on an interim basis until Feb. 11, nearly a full month after Farner's last day.
Greenfield School Board member Russ Spahn was only kidding, but he might as well have been serious when he told Assistant to the Superintendent Erica Wendelberger to “just book the room for every Monday night.” Spahn made the joke Monday after board members unanimously decided to table an important decision regarding the filling of the superintendent vacancy for yet another week. On the agenda for the second straight week was a discussion and possible decision to “approve compensation for performance of additional duties related to the Superintendent and Director of Business Services roles.” Options include hiring an interim superintendent or allowing the duties of the superintendent to be fulfilled from an administrator within the …

I do not know Lisa Elliot. I am sure that she was a great principal and Curriculum Director. I am sure that she will do a decent job. It justs seems to me that if the district really wants to move forward it ought to have tried to find the best in the country and one who actually has experience doing what they are going to be doing, that is a Supt. You guys like status quo.   more ›
