Only Minor Incidents at this Year's Dan Jansen Family Fest

The Greenfield Police Department had a game plan in place to prevent any incident from getting out of hand.

Dan Jansen Family Fest was relatively quiet, with mostly minor incidents requiring police involvement at the 18th annual installment of the festival at Konkel Park May 25-27. The Greenfield Police Department responded to two fights Sunday, one involving two juveniles and another involving two adults at the beer tent at approximately 10 p.m. On Friday, an 18-year-old was taken into custody for carrying a concealed knife without a permit, and later, in a separate incident, a Milwaukee Police Department officer found a knife hidden on the grounds and turned it over to Greenfield police. Chief Brad Wentlandt said Captains Jay Johnson and Mike Brunner had a strong plan in place, including a significant police presence that featured six officers…

Which Memorial Day Festivities are You Going To?

From Dan Jansen Family Fest to the annual Memorial Day tribute at Bicentennial Park, there's something for everyone this weekend.

From touching tributes to rock bands, Greenfield offers a wide variety of Memorial Day weekend events. The city's Memorial Day ceremony will be held at Bicentennial Park, 5300 W. Layton Ave., at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 27. The event will feature a free lunch and a special awards ceremony that will have a surprise guest of honor. Other highlights will include the poem A Soldier Died Today read by former alderman Donald Almquist, a performance by the Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps and a 21-gun salute and taps by American Legion Post 18. Also on Sunday, the new War Memorial in Hales Corners, will be dedicated during a day-long celebration. Jansen Fest Additions Include Country Music, Children's Theater

The annual Dan Jansen Family Fest, now in its 18th year, begins Friday at Konkel Park and runs through Monday.

When it comes to organizing Dan Jansen Family Fest, president Kathleen Doonan’s philosophy is stick with what works. And why shouldn’t it be. For the last 17 years, the festival has drawn thousands of people to the annual Memorial Day weekend event at Konkel Park. Doonan expects a big turnout starting Friday, especially with sunny skies in the forecast. Check out this year's schedule. “It’s supposed to be great weather, much better than three days of rain like we had last year,” Doonan said. Dan Jansen Family Fest Begins Friday

The annual festival features three days of music, food and family entertainment. Mix in a car show and a fourth day of rides and you have one heck of a weekend.

The 18th annual Dan Jansen Family Fest runs May 25-27, with an amusement park ride special on Monday, May 28. All events are at Konkel Park. Proceeds from the festival benefit the City of Greenfield's Department of Parks and Recreation. This year's food vendors include: Anderson Corn; AV Concessions; Hawg City Grill; Lemon Chill; Olde Country Style Almonds; Rocky Rococo Pizza; Scardina Bakery; Wisconsin Fried Cheese Curds and Yum - Yum Homemade Ice Cream. Mini Golf Tournament Benefits Partners of Parks and Recreation

The annual fundraiser was held at River Falls Family Fun Center.

Out of the "good people doing good things" file, the Greenfield Parks and Recreation Department got a nice surprise a few weeks back at the 13th annual Greenfield Partners of Parks and Recreation Mini-Golf Invitational. The event was held at the River Falls Family Fun Center and the owner, Loretta Kleczka, who not only graciously hosted the event at her facility, also presented the nonprofit organization with a check for $2,500 to be used toward the new Greenfield Community Center. In total, the event raised more than $5,900 to benefit the Partners of Parks and Recreation, whose mission is to assist the city's Parks and Recreation Department in the beautification of green space, purchase of park amenities and the development of park site …
