Three Applications Turned in for School Board Vacancy

The deadline to submit an application is 4 p.m. Monday, July 16.

Two familiar faces and a political newcomer have expressed their interest in joining the Greenfield School Board and filling the spot vacated by Dave Richlen, who resigned last month. Former board member Rick Moze is one of three candidates to submit a resume and cover letter, according to Board clerk Cathy Walsh. Moze finished fourth in April's spring election, finishing behind Russ Spahn, Walsh and Len Cich. Paul Palama, the fifth-place vote-getter in April's election, has also officially expressed his interest in the vacant seat, as has Brandon Rosner. The School Board is expected to review the candidate resumes and will eventually vote on a Richlen's replacement. Greenfield Patch will update this story with a final list of candidates …

Want to be a Greenfield School Board Member? Now's Your Chance

The Board initiated the process to replace Dave Richlen, who resigned earlier this month when he and his family moved to Franklin.

Greenfield School District residents have about three weeks to submit applications to join the school board, now that the search to replace Dave Richlen has begun.   The Greenfield School Board vacancy came about after Richlen moved out of the district and resigned June 19. His term on the seven-member board would have expired in April 2013. Board President Bruce Bailey initiated the application process at Monday's Board meeting at the School District's Administrative Building. Interested candidates must submit a written letter of interest and are strongly encouraged to include a resume to Board Clerk Cathy Walsh no later than 4 p.m. July 16. “Although we probably want to hurry to get someone in here, we also need a chance for people to be…

Dave Richlen Leaving Greenfield School Board

He and his family will be moving to Franklin in the coming weeks, leaving a vacancy on the Greenfield School Board.

Greenfield School Board member Dave Richlen will be leaving his post later this month or in early July once the sale of his family’s Greenfield home is complete. Richlen announced to the School Board on Monday that he will be moving to Franklin. “It’s been a lot of fun,” Richlen said. “I’ve enjoyed working with you guys, even the other board members who aren’t here. Even though sometimes we disagreed, we still, I thought, treated each other, really, really decent.” Richlen’s home was for sale in 2011 but did not sell, but a motivated buyer from Texas is ready to move in. Monday’s meeting may have been Richlen’s last. If not, the June 25 meeting will be his last appearance on the board after being elected in 2010. His term was set to expire…

Board Members Want Update on District's Rec Programs

Two Greenfield School Board members requested more information on revenues and costs associated with the district's community service programs, that were put in place on a one-year trial basis last February.

More than a year after initiating a plan to pursue revenue-generating activities including programs that mirrored those offered by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, some Greenfield School Board members want an update on the plan’s progress. They’ll have to wait another three months. The board unanimously voted to extend the program through June with the understanding that the district does not launch any new programs during that time and that the district provide an analysis of revenues and costs of those offerings, and those pertaining to the rental of district facilities like the Performing Arts Center and high school pool. The requests came from board members Don Carlson and Dave Richlen, two members who initially voiced their…
