Updated: Greenfield DPW Braces for Winter Storm

Whether the snow comes today, tomorrow or some other day, the Division of Public Works is ready.

Updated at 9:30 a.m. Friday: Greenfield's Divison of Public Works finished up its snow operations at approximately 8 p.m. last night and resumed operations at 4 a.m. this morning to get things ready for morning rush hour. Original story: At 3:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, the Division of Public Works building is as silent as a cemetery. With the exception of Superintendent Dan Ewert and a local reporter, no one remains in the building that just minutes ago was bustling with action. But sitting in the spacious attached garage are more than a dozen massive trucks equipped, most equipped with plow blades and loaded down with salt, ready to spring into action today, tomorrow or whenever Mother Nature decides to blanket the city with its first …

Greenfield DPW Takes on 67th Street Project

Crews put a temporary fix on one of the "worst roads in the city."

The Greenfield Department of Public Works was expected to finish a week-long project on 67th Street from Holmes Avenue to Edgerton Avenue sometime Friday afternoon. Work began on the street earlier this week but was delayed because of rain. According to foreman Terry Bartz, the DPW put down a 2-inch overlay of asphalt today, putting a temporary fix that will last a few years on a street Bartz called "one of the worst in the city."

Don,t forget about the Jackson Park Subdivision. It is one of the worst in Greenfield and nothing on the 7 year plan for any repairs. From Morgan to St Francis, and 44th Street West to Glenwood school the roads are Horrible. Previous road cuts from City water being installed 30 + years ago have sank 2 inches at points. Another City Furlough Scheduled for Today

City Hall employees and those in the Department of Public Works will not be working Friday.

City Hall and the Department of Public Works will be closed Friday, July 1, because of employee furloughs. Police and fire protective services will not be affected, nor is the library, an independently governed city entity. The remaining furlough dates for City Hall employees are Friday, Aug. 19; Monday, Oct. 10; and Friday, Nov. 11.
