The annual Memorial Day weekend event begins Friday.
If Dan Jansen Family Fest looks largely the same as it has in past years, that’s because organizers have decided not to mess with a good thing. The annual Memorial Day weekend festival at Konkel Park in Greenfield is in its 19th year and runs Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27. “We’re hoping people come out,” said Julie Rome, who has been on the Jansen Fest board for nine years and is now the board chair. “We’re expecting perfect weather, in the high 60s or low 70s.” A new band will hit the stage Saturday – Cherry Pie, a 1980s rock band – with return engagements from Rebel Grace on Friday and The Toys on Sunday. There are also two new food vendors, Greenfield’s own Los Mariachis and Fireman Catering. “It’s an old fire truck that he has …

According to Greenfield’s Health Director Darren Rausch, the Greenfield Farmers Market Planning Committee was overwhelmed with responses from the online community interest survey. Based on feedback from both the community and the potential vendors, the city has picked Sunday, June 23, for its initial market. The farmers market will run weekly through the last weekend of October. The market will be held at Konkel Park, 5151 W. Layton Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a meeting in May, time and date to be determined, for those community members who expressed interest in participating on the committee or in volunteering. The city is still seeking vendor …

Residents are encouraged to participate in a community interest survey.
Greenfield officials are beginning to organize a community farmers market that would begin in summer 2013 to take advantage of the full growing season. Details of dates, times and location are still being determined. “We strongly believe that a farmers market will be a vibrant addition to the city,” Mayor Michael Neitzke said. “A market providing access to fresh, healthy and locally grown produce will be a great benefit to our residents and will contribute to making Greenfield a better place.” In an effort to create a farmers market that serves the needs of the Greenfield community, a planning committee has developed a consumer feedback survey. The survey aims to assess the level of community interest and to assist in determining the …
