Whitnall students dressed in red Feb. 1, in honor of National Wear Red Day.
Friday, Feb. 1, marked the 10th anniversary of National Wear Red Day as millions of Americans, including students at Whitnall High School, wore red attire to raise awareness about heart disease and preventative measures that people may take. Thanks to WHS Principal Jackie Winter for these photos of students at Friday's home varsity basketball game. Share your photos! Let's see your shots of Wear Red Day. Upload them to this story!

And in doing so, the club won a SMART Board by donating the most food through the Hunger Task Force School Challenge.
Breaking a school record? Check. Winning a SMART Board? Check. Feeding the hungry? Check. The Whitnall High School DECA Club managed to do all three during a recent Hunger Task Force School Challenge donation campaign. The club, which set a goal to raise 30,000 pounds of food for the Hunger Task Force, collected 31,076 pounds, nearly three times as much as the runner-up’s total of 11,500 pounds. In the process, the club won a an interactive whiteboard system for the school and will be the Hunger Task Force’s first inductee into its hall of fame, according to the Hunger Task Force website. After all, Winter, the new Whitnall High School principal, knows the ins and outs of the district, having been a teacher or administrator at various levels since 1997. But throw in the district’s new school schedule, the opening of the high school’s beautiful new athletics stadium and her duties at home — she’s the mother of two children under 2 years old — and it's a challenge just keeping everything straight these days. “I keep a lot of lists of what needs to be done,” Winter joked when asked how her transition to her new position was going. “I’m trying to stay a couple …
