After opening the tournament with two wins Thursday, Bourgeois loses three straight times, including twice Saturday.
Whitnall senior Kameron Bougeois had to settle for sixth place at the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament after losing twice Saturday at the Kohl Center in Madison. After opening the tournament with a pair of wins Thursday that sent him into the semifinals at 103 pounds, Bourgeois (46-4) lost his lone match Friday and then twice Saturday, including a 7-0 defeat to Hartford Union sophomore Bobby Nachreiner. Nachreiner defeated Bourgeois, 17-1, in a state opening-round match last winter. “KB wrestled hard,” Whitnall co-head coach John Quinlan said through the “whitwrestle” Twitter feed. “Our styles just didn’t match up real well with Bobby. “Nachreiner showed why he has been ranked number one all year.” In the fifth-place match …

The Whitnall senior will now try for third place tomorrow morning.
A third-period takedown was the difference as Arrowhead sophomore Andrew Crone (42-5) beat Whitnall senior Kameron Bourgeois, 5-1, in a 103-pound state semifinal match at the WIAA Division 1 State Individual Wrestling Tournament. Bourgeois (46-2) scored an escape to start the third period to snap a scoreless tie before Crone took the lead for good. “Tough match,” Whitnall co-head coach John Quinlan said via the “whitwrestle” Twitter feed. “KB wrestled well, just came out of the wrong end of a scramble for position. “I thought the match went pretty much like we thought. We just needed the takedown in the first period. … Just couldn’t quite finish it.” Crone will compete for the state title at 6 p.m. Saturday against undefeated La Crosse …
GHS's Wirtz, Krueger lose consolation matches Friday as Keith Morin's coaching career ends. Whitnall's Kameron Bourgeois wrestles Friday evening.
Greenfield seniors Andrew Krueger and Taylor Wirtz had their seasons come to an end Friday short of the medal stand at the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison. After losing his first tournament match Thursday afternoon, Krueger defeated DeForest junior Jack Jenkins, 7-3, in a 140-pound wrestleback match Friday morning. Needing one more win to assure himself a spot in the top six, however, Krueger fell to D.C. Everest senior Josh Dupuis, 8-5, the final match coached by longtime Greenfield coach Keith Morin. Krueger finished his season with a 37-6 record and 102 career victories, the eighth-most in school history. Wirtz, who lost his opening round match at 130 pounds Thursday afternoon, was pinned by …

Senior participates in the WIAA state wrestling tournament today. The tournament continues through Saturday.
If Kameron Bourgeois does not win a single match this weekend, he’ll still rank as one of the best wrestlers Whitnall has ever had to offer. The 103-pound senior, however, has no intention of being shut out at the WIAA Division 1 State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which begins today at the Kohl Center in Madison and runs through Saturday. “I want to place in the top three,” Bourgeois said. “That’s my ultimate goal, and winning it would be great.” Bourgeois (44-1) is one of three seniors in the 16-team field and his 44 victories are the second most behind Hartford Union sophomore Bobby Nachreiner’s 48. Nachreiner is 48-2 and considered the tournament favorite. “He’s got a great chance of placing, and a great chance to get to the finals…

Three local wrestlers will be competing in this weekend's state tournament in Madison and the Whitnall boys basketball team is shooting for a share of the conference title.
A busy week could be an exciting one for Whitnall and Greenfield high school sports. Three local wrestlers will be competing in the WIAA Division 1 State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which begins Thursday in Madison. Bourgeois and Munoz are two of only three seniors and four upperclassmen in the 16-wrestler field. Three wrestlers will represent the city at WIAA state wrestling meet next weekend.
Kameron Bourgeois added three more wins to his impressive season tally and, as a result, will be making a return trip to the WIAA Division 1 State Individual Wrestling Tournament next weekend in Madison. Bourgeois, a 103-pound Whitnall senior, pinned his first two opponents at the Greenfield Sectional on Saturday before beating Ferriez Johnson, 10-6, in the championship match. Bourgeois improved to 44-1 and is one of three wrestlers who will represent the city at the state meet. Greenfield’s Andrew Krueger (35-5) will be making his first state appearance one year after the senior failed to get out of the regional. He had no such problems this time around, winning three times Saturday, including a pin in 1 minute, 37 seconds of Kenosha …

Twenty combined wrestlers move on to next weekend's sectional meet.
Kameron Bourgeois took his first steps in his march toward a state title by winning the Racine Case Regional on Saturday. The Whitnall senior won two matches after receiving a bye to improve to 41-1. He finished the day with a pin of Racine Park’s Mitchell Burdick in 3 minutes, 15 seconds and was one of two Whitnall wrestlers to be crowned champion. Joining him was by Nathan Barnhart, who improved to 31-3 when he beat Park’s Alec Just, 9-2, in the championship match at 160. Greenfield also had two regional champions. Andrew Krueger (32-5 record) defeated Whitnall’s Matt Price, 10-1, in the finals at 140, and Matt Brendemihl (18-10) defeated Franklin’s Erick Magerowski, 6-2, in the title match at 189. Runners- up were Alec Adams (125 …

Greenfield/Greendale's swim team edges New Berlin and Shorewood to win the Woodland Conference Meet.
Behind five event wins, three of which were conference records, the Greenfield/Greendale co-op boys swimming and diving team won the Woodland Conference Meet at Greenfield on Saturday. The PantherHawks tallied 440 points, edging second-place New Berlin Eisenhower West by just 10 points and third-place Shorewood by 29. The win gave Greenfield/Greendale a clean sweep in league events this winter. Earlier this season, the team won the conference relays and went undefeated in league duals. Matt Jungers, Ross Rybakowicz, Jack Lennertz and Shaun Fleischhacker got things going for the PantherHawks by winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1 minute, 38.97 seconds, a conference and pool record. Jungers followed with a conference and pool record in …

Bourgeois has been unstoppable in his final season for the Falcons.
Whitnall High School senior Kameron Bourgeois has always been small. He weighed only 72 pounds his freshman year and now three years later, Bourgeois is hovering just around the 100-pound mark. There is nothing small, however, about his progression and his success on the wrestling mat. He’s towered over many of his opponents during his high school career. Bourgeois, who has wrestled mostly at 112 pounds this year but will move down to 103 before the postseason, has a 35-1 record and is ninth on the school's all-time wins list with 125. He’s also ranked fifth in the state at 103 pounds, according to Crossface Magazine's online state rankings. This comes after Bourgeois won a Woodland Conference title at 103 and qualified for the WIAA state …

Regardless of how far KB and the Greenfield guys go in the state tournament (and I hope to see all three on the podium), it's great to see some local news coverage of their efforts. They're not in it for the recognition, but they deserve it. Thanks, David.   more ›
