Whitnall Senior Settles for Sixth at State

After opening the tournament with two wins Thursday, Bourgeois loses three straight times, including twice Saturday.

Whitnall senior Kameron Bougeois had to settle for sixth place at the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament after losing twice Saturday at the Kohl Center in Madison. After opening the tournament with a pair of wins Thursday that sent him into the semifinals at 103 pounds, Bourgeois (46-4) lost his lone match Friday and then twice Saturday, including a 7-0 defeat to Hartford Union sophomore Bobby Nachreiner. Nachreiner defeated Bourgeois, 17-1, in a state opening-round match last winter. “KB wrestled hard,” Whitnall co-head coach John Quinlan said through the “whitwrestle” Twitter feed. “Our styles just didn’t match up real well with Bobby. “Nachreiner showed why he has been ranked number one all year.” In the fifth-place match …

Bourgeois Stopped in Semifinals by Arrowhead's Crone

The Whitnall senior will now try for third place tomorrow morning.

A third-period takedown was the difference as Arrowhead sophomore Andrew Crone (42-5) beat Whitnall senior Kameron Bourgeois, 5-1, in a 103-pound state semifinal match at the WIAA Division 1 State Individual Wrestling Tournament. Bourgeois (46-2) scored an escape to start the third period to snap a scoreless tie before Crone took the lead for good. “Tough match,” Whitnall co-head coach John Quinlan said via the “whitwrestle” Twitter feed. “KB wrestled well, just came out of the wrong end of a scramble for position. “I thought the match went pretty much like we thought. We just needed the takedown in the first period. … Just couldn’t quite finish it.” Crone will compete for the state title at 6 p.m. Saturday against undefeated La Crosse …

State Wrestling Update: Greenfield's Season Ends; Bourgeois in Semis Tonight

GHS's Wirtz, Krueger lose consolation matches Friday as Keith Morin's coaching career ends. Whitnall's Kameron Bourgeois wrestles Friday evening.

Greenfield seniors Andrew Krueger and Taylor Wirtz had their seasons come to an end Friday short of the medal stand at the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison. After losing his first tournament match Thursday afternoon, Krueger defeated DeForest junior Jack Jenkins, 7-3, in a 140-pound wrestleback match Friday morning. Needing one more win to assure himself a spot in the top six, however, Krueger fell to D.C. Everest senior Josh Dupuis, 8-5, the final match coached by longtime Greenfield coach Keith Morin. Krueger finished his season with a 37-6 record and 102 career victories, the eighth-most in school history. Wirtz, who lost his opening round match at 130 pounds Thursday afternoon, was pinned by …

Whitnall's Bourgeois Takes Aim at State Title

Senior participates in the WIAA state wrestling tournament today. The tournament continues through Saturday.

If Kameron Bourgeois does not win a single match this weekend, he’ll still rank as one of the best wrestlers Whitnall has ever had to offer. The 103-pound senior, however, has no intention of being shut out at the WIAA Division 1 State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which begins today at the Kohl Center in Madison and runs through Saturday. “I want to place in the top three,” Bourgeois said. “That’s my ultimate goal, and winning it would be great.” Bourgeois (44-1) is one of three seniors in the 16-team field and his 44 victories are the second most behind Hartford Union sophomore Bobby Nachreiner’s 48. Nachreiner is 48-2 and considered the tournament favorite. “He’s got a great chance of placing, and a great chance to get to the finals…

Three wrestlers will represent the city at WIAA state wrestling meet next weekend.

Regardless of how far KB and the Greenfield guys go in the state tournament (and I hope to see all three on the podium), it's great to see some local news coverage of their efforts. They're not in it for the recognition, but they deserve it. Thanks, David.   more ›

Twenty combined wrestlers move on to next weekend's sectional meet.

Whitnall Senior Moving Up the Wrestling Ranks

Bourgeois has been unstoppable in his final season for the Falcons.

Whitnall High School senior Kameron Bourgeois has always been small. He weighed only 72 pounds his freshman year and now three years later, Bourgeois is hovering just around the 100-pound mark. There is nothing small, however, about his progression and his success on the wrestling mat. He’s towered over many of his opponents during his high school career. Bourgeois, who has wrestled mostly at 112 pounds this year but will move down to 103 before the postseason, has a 35-1 record and is ninth on the school's all-time wins list with 125. He’s also ranked fifth in the state at 103 pounds, according to Crossface Magazine's online state rankings. This comes after Bourgeois won a Woodland Conference title at 103 and qualified for the WIAA state …
