What could the city's Parks and Recreation Department do with $100,000 worth of improvements at Konkel Park? Or what if Milwaukee County had that kind of cash to upgrade Alan Kulwicki Park? (My vote would be for a statue of the late, great racing star!) This summer, Coca-Cola is rallying people to cast a “swing vote” for their favorite park candidate while issuing the the prestigious title of “America’s Favorite Park!” to any city, state or national park in the United States. The grand prize? The rain cleared out just in time for the Greenfield 5k Run/Walk to take place at Kulwicki Park this morning. Thirty-two participants, ranging in age from 16 to 50+, came ready to stay the course by stretching and keeping themselves well hydrated. Organizer and Greenfield Parks and Recreation Supervisor, Brian Ostopowicz, ensured plenty of water, fresh fruit and engergy bars were on hand before, during and after the event. Each participant received a goodie bag and T-shirt. An awards ceremony recognizing the fastest runners in each age category was held after all participants crossed the finish line.

A Greenfield family rates all of the playgrounds in the city.
My kids and I spent a few days visiting every playground we could find in Greenfield (tough assignment, I know) and ranking them on a scale of 1-5 stars, with five being the best. Below you will find our opinions, and some facts, too, about each playground. Please note, we were rating playgrounds, not the parks in general. Many of the parks, the county parks in particular, offer a lot more than just playgrounds (though sometimes it seems as though the playgrounds are an afterthought. I've listed below what we think constitutes a nice playground. We didn't rate the presence of bathrooms as very important because, as a germ-a-phobe, I prefer to have the kids go before we leave the house, but I did indicate the playgrounds that have them. My …

A 5K run and walk fundraiser for the Greenfield Community Center has been scheduled and participants can save money if they sign up today. The 5K Run/Walk For a Better U event, a 3.1-mile run and walk on the trails through scenic Greenfield is Saturday, Sept. 3. The race begins and ends at Kulwicki Park, 10777 W. Cold Spring Rd. The entry fee is $20 the day of the race or $17 for those who register before Aug. 12. Those who register by Friday are guaranteed a race t-shirt, and all participants will receive a goodie bag and post-race refreshments.
