Election Preview: Whitnall School Board

Stephanie Richter is seeking a second term on the Whitnall School Board, while LuAnn Bird is running in the uncontested election on April 2.

The Whitnall School Board will have one new face come April. Barring an unexpected write-in candidacy, LuAnn Bird will replace Richard Kollauf, who was selected to finish out the term of a board member who resigned last year. Stephanie Richter, the incumbent, is also on the ballot again and is seeking a second term in the April 2 election. Bird and Richter are the only two candidates on the ballot, and there are two seats available. 'Forward Thinking' Will Bring Community, Schools Together

The group consists of local school districts and municipalities and is designed to increase community engagement in Hales Corners, Greendale and Greenfield.

What needs to happen in our community to get the schools we want? That’s the key question a new group focused on community engagement is hoping to get an answer to as it continues to interact with the citizens, community and business leaders, parents and other stakeholders. The group, called “Forward Thinking” is a collaboration of the Greenfield, Greendale and Whitnall school districts, as well the City of Greenfield and Villages of Hales Corners and Greendale. Over the last few months, administrative leaders of all six entities have been meeting every other week with the aim of building a stronger bond between public schools and the communities they are in. Incumbent Stephanie Richter Among Whitnall School Board Candidates

She will retain her seat after short-term fill-in Richard Kollauf bowed out and only one other candidate emerged.

One of two Whitnall School Board incumbents whose seats are available in the April 2013 election will seek another term. Stephanie Richter, who joined the board in 2010, will retain her seat for three more years after she was one of just two candidates to emerge Wednesday. But Rick Kollauf, who in November was chosen to replace Suzette Larson, opted not to run for re-election. Kollauf had been a board member for 12 years before choosing not to run again in 2010. The deadline to declare candidacy was 5 p.m. Jan. 2. The only other candidate is Hales Corners' LuAnn Bird, who was one of four people who interviewed for the vacancy created by Larson’s resignation.
