The MECA Wisconsin Police Canine Vest Foundation is expected to present the Greenfield Police Department with $14,000 at the department's annual golf outing Friday.
Making sure all police K9s in Wisconsin have protective vests is only one way the MECA Wisconsin Police Canine Vest Foundation plans to help the state’s K-9 units. On Thursday, the foundation established by veterinarian Dr. Marla Lichtenberger, owner of Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals, announced it would purchase four police dogs, including one for Greenfield. The foundation will present the Greenfield Police K-9 Development Fund a check for $14,000 on Friday at the 15th annual Greenfield Police Department golf outing at Muskego Lakes Golf Course. Capt. More than 1,200 people attended the Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals’ first annual “MECA Vest a K-9 Fest” to raise awareness and much needed funds to vest Wisconsin’s police dogs with bullet and stab-proof vests and to assist Wisconsin Police K-9 Units purchase the finest dogs and equipment needed to protect and serve the public. The successful event, held July 14, raised more than $30,000, in which all proceeds fund the MECA Wisconsin Police Canine Vest Foundation, Inc. The foundation is committed to ensuring all police dogs in the state are provided with protective K-9 police vests. A local veterinarian's efforts to provide protective K-9 vests for all police dogs in the state is in full swing. Dr. Marla Lichtenberger, owner of the Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals (MECA) in Greenfield, has established an organization designed to push the initiative, and just released this YouTube video explaining the cause. Lichtenberger has founded the MECA Wisconsin Police Canine Vest Foundation, Inc.
