The Whitnall School Board will look at proposed fees for renting the high school's new $6.5 million stadium.
Renting out Whitnall High School’s Falcon Field could cost someone more than $550. Adding use of the concession stand and using the facility for a night event would bump that up to $750. Those prices are among the fees the Whitnall School Board is expected to discuss, and possibly approve Monday for those who wish to use the $6.5 million Falcon Field, which opened in September 2011. The cost to rent the stadium, as proposed by Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Matt Karshna, will be $552 for the first four-hour block, which includes one hour of custodial labor, and $500 for an additional block. The stadium includes use of the game field and/or track, bleachers, press box, restrooms, team rooms and ticket booths. Wi-Fi and general area …

The Whitnall School Board gave senior Clayton Anderson the go-ahead to continue to build on his disc golf course plan he presented to them earlier this month.
A proposal by Whitnall senior Clayton Anderson and the district Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Matt Karshna to develop a disc golf course on district land moved ahead Monday. The Whitnall School Board voted unanimously to allow Anderson to pursue funding for the plan to build a course in the district’s Nature Pod, and for him to work with Karshna to help build upon a concept for the course he presented to the board earlier this month. “Once we develop a scope of work and contact the appropriate stakeholders, we’ll move the project to the next step,” Karshna said. “I needed to know that the board supported the idea and they do.” Karshna said Anderson, son of Whitnall School Board member TJ Anderson, will be largely in charge of coming up …

The unusually warm spring has helped speed along the building of the concession stand and team rooms.
Work continues at Whitnall High School on the district's new athletics facilities, a project that in many ways is ahead of schedule thanks to the mild winter. Matt Karshna, the district's building and grounds supervisor, provided this report to the Whitnall School Board on Monday: "There is nothing like an early spring in Wisconsin – a little sun a strong south breeze. And after another mild month we have made significant headway on the Concession/Restrooms/Team Room buildings. The exterior masonry, structural steel roof framing and roofing have been completed. If any board member is looking to take a tour now is the time to contact me to really get a feeling of the size and scope of the project. Our contractors have done an excellent job …

But district does not anticipate any major changes in the project's timeline.
Though the $6.5 million Whitnall School District’s facilities project is slightly behind schedule thanks to a gasline hiccup, Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Matt Karshna said the project’s timeline has not been compromised. “The dominoes are starting to fall and things are starting to come together,” Karshna told the Whitnall School Board on Monday. “We’re a little bit behind schedule but not in the sense that it will change our end date. We had some flex room this summer and this fall to get some things done. … (Current projects are) going to get completed this fall. And the work on the football field will start on time this fall.” According to a report provided by VJS Construction Services, underground utilities were found during the …

I think that $6.5 million is way too much to spend on a football field from our tax money. What about something that could contribute to the school academically?   more ›
