Two suspects were caught on video trying to steal money from a charity donation box in the drive-thru of McDonald’s, 4275 S. 27th St., before trying to open the drive-thru window itself Christmas Day. According to the Greenfield Police Department report, a surveillance video of the restaurant show a suspect walking through the drive-thru at 10:53 p.m. Dec. 25. The man first tried to remove the Ronald McDonald House donation tray but was unsuccessful. He then made at least two attempts to put his hands inside the tray, but was unable to pull any money out. A man who has targeted automatic flush valves off of toilets and urinals continues to hit local restaurants and college campuses. Sgt. Ray Radakovich of the Greenfield Police Department told TMJ4 that a man, who the news station has dubbed the “Backpack Bathroom Bandit,” has stolen automatic flushers from at least 20 bathrooms with parts valued at more than $30,000. Restaurants and college campuses in Brookfield, Pewaukee, Milwaukee, West Allis and Greenfield have been victimized, Radakovich said. Police now have video of the suspect, as seen in the TMJ4 report. Valuable electronic flush valves have been disappearing from local establishments in recent weeks.
Southeastern Wisconsin has been hit hard by an unusual string of thefts, with Greenfield locations being targeted at least three times this month. The popular item? Valuable flush valves for toilets and urinals. Just weeks after a thief reportedly stole two such flushers from McDonald’s, 4275 S. 27th St., another McDonald’s and ITT Technical Institute had their flushing devices lifted Oct. 22. “We are currently meeting with other agencies that have also experienced these thefts, most notably West Allis and Pewaukee,” Greenfield Assistant Chief Paul Schlecht wrote in an email. Two expensive electronic mechanisms were taken from the men's bathroom at McDonald's on 27th Street on Oct. 9.
"Metal flushing mechanism" isn't on the McDonald's menu, but that didn't stop a thief from ordering, er, taking a pair of them from a Greenfield McDonald's last week. According to the Greenfield Police Department report, an employee at McDonald's, 4275 S. 27th St., reported to police that sometime between 1-2:30 p.m. Oct. 9, someone stole the metal flushing mechanism to the urinal and toilet in the men's bathroom. The employee told police the mechanisms are electronic-based, making them very expensive, and that one plumber told the employee the parts would cost approximately $500 each to replace. The employee also told police that three other local McDonald's have had the same bathroom mechanisms taken.

Burger King, 4980 S. 76th St., closed last week as construction crews give the fast-food restaurant a new look. The restaurant, is expected to reopen later this month or in early November. When the renovations began, the restaurant’s drive-thru remained opened, but the city’s health department stepped in and stopped the drive-thru operations Oct. 4. While the remodeling does not directly impact the kitchen and food preparation areas, it does impact the access of staff to appropriate restroom facilities, and per the state’s food code, staff must have access to those facilities, Greenfield Health Director Darren Rausch wrote in an email. A Big Mac has 550 calories. Add a medium Coke and fries and you're well over 1,000 calories for one meal, more than half the calories recommended for women daily and almost half of what's recommended for men. But will knowing that a sausage biscuit with egg is 510 calories change what you order? McDonald's began posting calorie counts on its menu boards last week, well in advance of federal requirements for restaurant chains with more than 20 locations. In honor of kids hitting the books, McDonald's, including the three in Greenfield, is giving away oatmeal to students from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday.
Greenfield's McDonald's is among the 124 other restaurants in Southeastern Wisconsin, will be offering up free fruit and maple oatmeal to students from 6-9 a.m. Thursday to mark the new school year. There’s a time and place for hygiene. Where you usually stand in line and decide between Coke and or Mellow Yellow isn’t one of them. A 52-year-old man was caught bathing his foot in the soda dispenser machine at McDonald’s, 5040 S. 76th Street, at 5 p.m. Sept. 3. The restaurant’s manager allegedly spotted the man and asked him to stop. The manager told police the man became belligerent and left the restaurant carrying two large plastic bags and a curtain rod. The manager said the man was a vagrant, whom he has had trouble with in the past, and did not wish to pursue the matter. But he did tell police the man was not welcomed back. Consumers, commuters and business owners are not thrilled with the changes along one of the busiest intersections in the city.
This summer, the medians near one of the busiest intersections in the city were dramatically altered, and the new traffic pattern is causing problems. The reconstruction near the intersection of Highway 100 and Layton Avenue, the ability for southbound drivers on Highway 100 to turn directly into the three businesses on the northeast corner — Walgreens, NAPA Auto Parts and McDonald’s — was eliminated. A 27-year-old Chicago woman made the employment claim when employees refused to complete her order when she went through the drive-thru without a car.
A Chicago woman claiming to be a level 14 government official was arrested for alleged disorderly conduct Sunday in Greenfield. And while we’re not exactly sure what she meant by her self-described job title, it seems odd that someone with so much alleged clout would find herself intoxicated, in a McDonald’s drive-thru and without a car.
