MARC Teams With Santa for Puppy Delivery

The Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center helped Jeffrey the Dog find a home with two unsuspecting children at Southridge Mall on Thursday.

The Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center, with some help from Santa Claus, pulled off a Christmas surprise on a grand scale Thursday at Southridge Mall. After meeting with parents interested in adopting a puppy for their two young children, both of whom had asked for a dog in letters to Santa, MARC officials found a match in a young puppy named Jeffrey. What's more, MARC arranged for the children, who thought they were coming to Southridge Mall to get their picture taken with Santa, to receive their new dog while sitting on Santa's lap. Check out the YouTube video of the heartwarming event!

Vote for 26-Toed Cat in Magazine Modeling Competition

Daniel, the 26-toed cat who saved the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center, is in the top five modeling competition for the cover of a new cat magazine.

The cat with 26 toes who has been accredited with raising thousands of dollars that helped the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center find a new home is on his way to becoming a model. Daniel is competing to be the cover model of the first issue of Modern Cat magazine and he is currently in the top five. Voting ends July 16. People can vote multiple times. Daniel became a chief fundraiser as the center tried to raise money to purchase its Greenfield location after their lease was not renewed at Southridge Mall in Greendale last year. National media exposure had people from all over the world donate at least $26, or one dollar for each of Daniel’s toes, resulting in more than $120,000 in eight weeks. Aroundt the same time the center learned that …

Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center Opens Doors Saturday

The MARC team has been working non-stop updating the former Custom Design Associates building, 5217 S. 51st Street, in preparation of Saturday’s much-anticipated opening.

Amy Rowell and her staff have been putting in some long hours at the new Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center. So many hours, in fact, one neighbor popped in Friday morning to see if everything was OK. “He’s been seeing us stay late and he noticed that last night I didn’t leave,” said Rowell, MARC’s director. “So he came over and checked on me.” The MARC team has been working non-stop updating the former Custom Design Associates building, 5217 S. 51st Street, in preparation of Saturday’s much-anticipated opening. Green Bay Packer a 'Hero' for Greenfield Animal Shelter

Cornerback Jarrett Bush was named spokesman for the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center and was in Greenfield on Tuesday.

It’s not every day you can pencil in a Super Bowl hero as your spokesperson, but this week, the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center did just that. Green Bay Packers cornerback Jarrett Bush, who intercepted Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger during the Packers' Super Bowl XLV victory last February, was in Greenfield on Tuesday for a photo shoot for the MARC’s “Hero” campaign. Bush, the center’s new spokesperson, posed with several different animals, including Daniel the 26-toed cat, at MARC’s new home for a campaign aimed at generating donations for the center’s capital as well as bringing awareness to the no-kill animal shelter. The “Hero” campaign asks for participants to pledge to raise at least $1 per day for at least one …

A Happy Ending? Cat Shelter Hoping to Relocate to Greenfield

The center has been just outside the city's limits in Milwaukee since 1998.

Greenfield must have a soft spot for pet adoptions. Just weeks after the city approved the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center’s request to call Greenfield its home, Happy Endings No-Kill Cat Shelter, which has operated at 5349 Forest Home Ave. in Milwaukee since 1998, will have its proposal to relocate to 3318 Loomis Rd. heard by Greenfield’s Plan Commission on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Happy Endings is dedicated to the housing, feeding, medical treatment and re-socialization of abused, orphaned, stray and unwanted kittens and cats. Adoption-ready cats would be housed on-site at 3318 Loomis Rd. while most other cats – such as sick and injured cats – would be housed in foster care. According to information provided to the Plan Commission by Happy …

Opinion: Greenfield Needs More Amy Rowells, Milwaukee Animal Rescue Centers

The center's director intends to voluntarily make payments to the city in lieu of taxes.

The Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center, home of the world famous Daniel, the 26-toed cat, is already proving itself a good addition to Greenfield. Just a few short weeks ago, MARC received Common Council approval to move from Southridge Mall in Greendale to 5101 W. Loomis Rd. in Greenfield (Or is it 5217 S. 51st Street? More on that later). On Dec. 23, the center’s director, Amy Rowell, closed on the property and the transition started taking place. Late last week, however, the city realized it granted the center its approval without ever talking to Rowell about the city’s voluntary Payment In Lieu of Taxes, or PILOT, ordinance. The center is a non-profit animal welfare charity, and as such, is eligible for a property tax exemption. The PILOT …

Greenfield a Purrrrfect Fit For Daniel, Animal Rescue Center

The Common Council unanimously approved a move for the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center, made famous by Daniel, a 26-toed cat, from Southridge Mall to Greenfield.

Daniel the Cat, the 26-toed cat familiar with the spotlight, seemed prepared to speak on behalf of the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center at Tuesday’s Common Council meeting. But a special use request by Amy Rowell, the center’s executive director, to relocate the center from the upper level of Southridge Mall to 5101 W. Loomis Rd., was met with no resistance, leaving Daniel, a orange and white tabby known worldwide for his extra digits, was left mostly talking to himself. “The cat has to sign up for citizen commentary,” Mayor Michael Neitzke joked as Daniel purred during Community Development Manager Chuck Erickson’s presentation at a public hearing at City Hall. The special use permit was approved unanimously, 5-0. Earlier this year, …

Animal Shelter, Community Center Sign on Tap for Common Council

Residents will have a chance to weigh in on the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center's proposed move from Southridge Mall to Greenfield.

Operators of the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center - and the animals that rely on the center's services - will find out if Christmas comes early at Tuesday's Common Council Meeting. There will be a public hearing to discuss the special use permit required by the center to move from Southridge Mall to 5101 West Loomis Road, the location formerly operated by Custom Design Associates. Another interesting item on the council's agenda is a request from the city's Parks and Recreation Department director Scott Jaquish for a sign code waiver to allow the city's Community Center to place an electronic reader board sign, paid for by Clear Channel, on the north end of its lot. At a Planning Commission meeting earlier this month, the board split, 3-3, …
