'Fill the Boot' Closing in on Goal of $35,000

The event ends today, so there is still time for you to donate.

Great weather and even better generosity has the Greenfield firefighters within striking distance of its three-day goal for its Fill the Boot campaign. According to firefighter and co-coordinator Andy Greil, firefighters raised $13,109 Friday and $12,333 Saturday for a total of $25,442. Five Reasons Why 'Fill the Boot' Rocks

Greenfield Patch editor David Cotey spent the morning helping the Greenfield Fire Department 'fill the boot' for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This is what he loved about the experience.

If you haven't been to the intersection of Layton Avenue and 76th Street yet today, you're missing out.  The Greenfield Fire Department is out working the streets, running from car to car, dodging trucks and motorcycles, collecting as much cash (and coins) as they can for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  Thanks to Andy Greil of the Greenfield Fire Department for letting me stop by today and help with the Fill the Boot campaign.  Here are five things I loved about this morning's volunteer experience. 1. People's generosity: I don't know how much I collected in my few hours on the northeast corner of the busiest intersection in Greenfield, but it sure felt good seeing it get dumped out into the collection bucket. Great to see folks …

First Day of Fill the Boot for MDA in Pictures

The three-day campaign is off to a great start with thousands of dollars already raised after just a few hours.

The Greenfield Fire Department kicked off its three-day Fill the Boot for the Muscular Dystrophy Association campaign on Friday morning. As many as 12 firefighters walked the corners of Layton Avenue and 76th Street collecting donations for the MDA with an eye on reaching $35,000, which would surpass last year's total of $30,000. The event will run through the end of the work day today and again Saturday and Tuesday. Greenfield Patch editor David Cotey spent part of Friday morning helping out the good cause. Be sure to check Greenfield Patch later today to hear his five reason why he loved volunteering.

Do You Think We Can Fill This Boot?

The Greenfield Fire Department begins its Fill the Boot campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and Greenfield Patch will be there to help.

It's kind of depressing when the words "slight chance of rain" actually sound good to me, infinitely better than "expect rain throughout" or "thunderstorms approaching." Tomorrow, there is just a "slight chance of rain" in the morning, and assuming that's all it is - a chance - that's good news for the Greenfield Fire Department and great news for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  Greenfield firefighters will be hitting the corners of Layton Avenue and 76th Street tomorrow, Saturday and Tuesday for their Fill the Boot fundraiser to benefit the MDA. It's the third attempt to hold the event (it has been postponed twice because of severe weather), and the firefighters are trying to top the $30,000 they raised a year ago. And Greenfield …

Fill the Boot Fundraiser Rescheduled ... Again

Greenfield firefighters are teaming up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to raise funds later this week.

For the second time this month, Greenfield Fire Fighters Local #1963 has set rain dates for its annual Fill the Boot fundraiser to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The fire fighters will remove their boots to collect money from motorists and pedestrians June 24, 25, and 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the intersection of Layton Avenue and 76th Street. The event was postponed Monday because of rain.   "We cancelled the event as a safety precaution," MDA fundraising coordinator Elizabeth Wagler said. "The safety of the fire fighters and the public is our number one priority. But the fire fighters are excited to get out there later this week and raise their goal." The event was originally slated for June 8-10, but postponed because of …

Fill the Boot Fundraiser Postponed Again

This time, rain is the culprit.

The Greenfield fire fighters have postpone their collection for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Fill the Boot fundraiser due to the rain. Greenfield Fire Department Local #1963 will collect donations from motorists and pedestrians at a later date. The event was originally slated for earlier this month but it was postponed at that time because of the extreme heat.

Firefighters Fill the Boot Campaign Back On Starting Monday

Members of the Greenfield Fire Department will be collecting donations at the corner of 76th Street and Layton Avenue on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Greenfield Fire Department and the Greenfield Professional Firefighters Local IAFF 1963 will give their Fill the Boot fundraiser another try today, Tuesday and Wednesday. The event was originally slated for earlier this month but postponed because of extreme weather. The firefighters will remove their boots to collect money from motorists and pedestrians from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the intersection of Layton Avenue and 76th Street. All proceeds will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and its clients and services like sending children and young adults to MDA Summer Camp in Camp Lake, funding clinic visits at Froedtert Memorial Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, and financing wheelchair repairs. The department …
