Pacific Produce Will Remain Open Through June

Despite previous food safety issues, the supermarket will not have its license revoked before it expires next summer.

Despite persistent food safety compliance issues since it opened in November 2010, Sat Le, the owner of Pacific Produce, an Asian supermarket on the city’s east side, will not have his licensed revoked by the City of Greenfield. Health Director Darren Rausch recommended to the city’s Board of Health last week to allow Le to keep Pacific Produce, 5455 S. 27th St., open through the end of his license, which expires at the end of June. Between now and then, the Health Department will conduct two more health inspections, and in July, the city will decide whether or not to issue a license renewal. On Oct. 25, inspectors found 11 violations, all of which Rausch said were minor and easy to fix. “Over the last couple of months, they did a really …

Next Two Months Critical for Pacific Produce

Food safety compliance problems and other issues at Pacific Produce, 5455 S. 27th St., have persisted since it opened in November 2010.

Pacific Produce owner Sat Le has two more months to save his popular Asian supermarket. The Board of Health agreed to postpone a discussion regarding the possible revocation of Le’s license because of food code violations until Nov. 8, essentially granting Le two more months to get his business in order. Le made the postponement request because his food safety consultant could not attend Thursday’s meeting. “It’s not really an extension of any sort,” said Darren Rausch, the city’s health director. “Essentially, nothing changes between now and November.” Food safety compliance problems and other issues at Pacific Produce, 5455 S. 27th St., have persisted since it opened in November 2010. The biggest issues included employee knowledge and …

Franklin Man Allegedly Caught Masturbating in Store Parking Lot

Suspect is standing outside of Pacific Produce with his pants around his ankles when a woman and her boyfriend spot him masturbating while people are walking in and out of the store.

A 31-year-old Franklin man is facing charges after he was caught allegedly masturbating in the parking lot of a Greenfield grocery store while standing outside of his car. Michael Timothy Morrow was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Tuesday with one count of lewd and lascivious behavior. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint: On Sunday, a man and woman went to Pacific Produce, 5455 S. 27th Street, and spotted Morrow standing in the parking lot facing the business. The woman said Morrow was outside of his car with his pants around his ankles and masturbating while looking into the business as people entered and exited the store. The woman called police, who …

Pacific Produce Continues To Have Perpetual Food Safety Infractions

City health director says Pacific Produce has not made the necessary improvements, could face license revocation.

A supermarket in Greenfield is precariously close to having its license revoked as city health officials continue to notice food safety infractions. Darren Rausch, the city's health director, told the Board of Health on Thursday Pacific Produce has failed to make substantial improvements according to an inspection performed at the supermarket, located at 5455 S. 27th St., on June 20. Inspectors noticed a lack of employee knowledge, food from unknown sources, moldy vegetables and improper load limits in the refrigerators and freezers, according to Rausch. Maintenance and floor drainage issues also persist at the supermarket. "In short, the inspection didn't show that much progress at all had been made since the May inspection," Rauch said. …

Pacific Produce Owner Aims for Health Code Compliance

The City of Greenfield's Board of Health approved the issuance of a new retail food license to Sid Le, the supermarket's owner, at a meeting May 10, despite continued health code issues.

Pacific Produce has been put on watch, this time presumably for the last time. The City of Greenfield's Board of Health approved the issuance of a new retail food license to Sid Le, the supermarket's owner, at a meeting May 10, and review Pacific Produce's case — a case that includes dozens of inspections or re-inspections — with the understanding by both parties that the situation will be reviewed in September. "My client is confident that he can meet the requests of Greenfield and will be successful at the September meeting," lawyer John J. Germanotta wrote in response to questions emailed by Greenfield Patch on May 10. Germanotta's letter said Le had taken substantial steps toward improvement since January, when the Board of Health …

Pacific Produce Supermarket to Get Another Chance

The new supermarket on 27th Street has come precariously close to having its retail food license revoked by the Greenfield Health Department after several recurring violations have been uncovered over the last year and a half.

Pacific Produce is getting a second life, just in time to prevent the popular Asian supermarket at 5455 S. 27th Street from making city of Greenfield history. And not the good kind of history. For more than a year, the Greenfield Health Department has been monitoring the new supermarket, which operates in the former Kohl’s Food Store location, and dedicating an unordinary amount of resources to the location after several food violations – both major and minor – were uncovered. On Thursday, Darren Rausch, the city's health director, is expected to suggest to the Board of Health that Pacific Produce owner Sat Le be allowed to renew his retail food license for the supermarket under the same conditions the board placed on Le’s license in …

New Asian Supermarket, Restaurant Open for Business

International plaza replaces old Kohl's Food Store.

With the recent opening of two new businesses in Greenfield, the city suddenly has more of an international feel. Pacific Produce, an Asian supermarket, opened Nov. 16 at 5455 S. 27th St. on the corner of West Grange Avenue. In addition to groceries, the 45,000-square-foot complex consists of two prepared-food stands, which sells banh mi sandwiches, Thai dishes and smoothies. Two months before Pacific Produce opened, Pho Viet, a small Vietnamese restaurant, opened for business right next door. The businesses have replaced the former Kohl's Food Store. Sid Le, manager of Pacific Produce, said it was a "significant transformation" from the Kohl's store. The entire structural facade was rebuilt and the interior infrastructure was remodeled. …
