Check out these spots — declared the best by thousands of Patch readers — in the Milwaukee area.

Patch readers (and fish fry connoisseurs) throughout the Milwaukee area cast thousands of votes over the past five days, helping us determine some of the best fish fry spots in the area. This is the first in a series of stories where Patch will ask readers to give their takes on favorite local businesses and places.  The winners of the best fish fry contests were determined over the course of a week, from more than 20,000 votes cast, 145 comments left, 37 restaurant reviews and 100 Facebook Likes or Recommends.  Here's a roundup of the winners:

Events, Atmosphere Keeps 'Playoffs' in Contention for Customers

This summer's Readers' Choice for Best Pub has a lot to offer, from darts to sand volleyball to live bands Saturday nights.

Running any business, let alone a bar, is by no means easy. Dawn Gonyo, owner of Playoffs Pub, knows that firsthand. Rarely a day has gone by since the bar opened May 1, 2011, that Gonyo has not been at her bar, bartending, cleaning, promoting or mingling. But even Gonyo, who has been in the bar/restaurant industry since she was in high school, expected it to take longer than it has for Playoffs, which resides in the building formerly housed by Fat Boys Roadhouse, 8222 W. The summer-long contest is over, and Patch readers have spoken. Here is the list of winners in our Readers' Choice contests.

Almost everyone likes a place to unwind while having a cold drink, watching the big game or listening to some good music. And if you’re looking for a place to do all three, look no further than Playoff’s Pub. Playoffs Pub, barely a year old, was voted as the Best Pub in the Greenfield-Greendale area in the most popular poll in our summer-long Readers’ Choice contest. Nearly six dozen people logged on to Greenfield Patch or Greendale Patch to vote for their favorite watering hole, and 30 percent of them chose Playoffs over more established locations such as Mad Dog Saloon and 68th Street Pub.
