Athletic Director, Associate Principal Rick Elertson Leaving Whitnall

Elertson was a high school associate principal and handled the school's athletics for nearly two years. He and his family are moving to Colorado.

In his two years as the Whitnall High School athletic director and associate principal, Rick Elertson has seen the opening of state-of-the-art Falcon Field and helped the school launch seven new clubs, all while Whitnall has remained near the top of the heap academically. And while he’s quick to point out he’s not necessarily directly responsible for any of those things, he’s happy to have been a part of them. “There’s a sense of pride at Whitnall,” Elertson said. “There’s a stadium we can be proud of, the community has rallied around athletics and the district’s academics. Things tend to snowball from there in a positive way. “It’s a big deal for me to feel like I’ve been a part of that renewal.” To see what happens next, however, …

Longtime Whitnall Basketball Coach Kent Kroupa Retires

Kroupa told athletic director Rick Elertson on Tuesday that he was finished after coaching the Falcons for 20 years.

Updated 12:50 p.m. Tuesday Kent Kroupa has always trusted his gut and his heart. And this week, both told him it was time to step away from the Whitnall boys basketball program after 20 years as head coach. “It’s been a privilege and honor to coach at Whitnall,” Kroupa told Patch Tuesday afternoon. “Whitnall will never leave me. When you’re involved with something so long, it’s always going to be a part of me. You do it so long, it’s part of your blood.” Kroupa was a special education teacher at Whitnall for 32 years. He spent 20 of those coaching the boys basketball program, including three seasons that ended at the state tournament. His 1988 squad won the WIAA Division 1 championship. He also coached basketball for eight years at Muskego…

Whitnall Could be Heard Loud, Clear Through New Sound System

Athletic Director Rick Elertson said the high school gym's sound system needs to be replaced and he hopes to have a new one by the school's June 3 commencement ceremony.

First-year Whitnall High School Athletic Director Rick Elertson remembers being introduced to the school gymnasium’s sound system last fall. It was an introduction that left a bad taste in his mouth. “I immediately recognized we weren’t going to have a good relationship,” Elertson quipped during a Whitnall School Board meeting Monday. The system is no longer audible when the volume is turned up too high, and at times during the 2011-12 winter season, the school contracted with a DJ to bring in a sound system for half-time shows and public address announcements. Elertson said the current system is an antique and needs to be replaced. “It’s not functional anymore,” he said. “That’s where we’re at.” Elertson combed through his budget, and …

Whitnall Turns to Milwaukee Hamilton for New Football Coach

Jeff Wallack, who has spent the last six years as head coach at Milwaukee Hamilton, will replace Rob Leboeuf. He will be introduced to players and parents Wednesday.

Jeff Wallack was attracted to the Whitnall High School head football coach position for several reasons, three of which stood out more than most. He wanted to coach in a district with only one high school, was encouraged by the district’s junior program’s participation numbers and loved the Whitnall community, one where he and his wife Jamie would like to raise their sons AJ and Parker. Oh yeah, let’s not forget about the brand-spanking new facilities, which will include a new football stadium equipped with a turf field and video scoreboard and are on schedule to be completed in time for the 2012 football season. “I didn’t really think about that until (athletic director) Mr. (Rick) Elertson was giving me a tour,” Wallack said. “That’s …

Whitnall Football Coach Rob Leboeuf Resigns

He spent eight years as head coach of the Falcons.

Rob Leboeuf has resigned as head football coach at Whitnall High School after eight seasons. Whitnall Superintendent Lowell Holtz emailed Leboeuf's statement, which was read to the athletes on the football team after school Tuesday, to Patch. “In order to focus on my teaching here at Whitnall, I will no longer be serving as the head football coach. I will be assisting (Athletic Director) Mr. (Rick) Elertson and the new coach, once he is selected, in the transition. The April football meeting will still occur, and all prospective players will continue to receive communications about sign-ups, camps, and workouts at that time. I need you to continue to work hard in the off-season and keep this program strong. If you have any questions or are…

Sad Parent

7:00 am on Wednesday, February 15, 2012

I think with out Coach Rob this team will not be the same. He was a good Head Coach and kept this program strong. There is a big drifference between it being about "the kids" or what the "Administration" whats. Yes Mr Holtz, I sure hope you do remember "The primary focus of this program is the "kids". And I sure hope the Athletic Director remembers this too. It is will be sad to see Rob leave and…   more ›

New Whitnall Athletic Director Happy to be Back

Rick Elertson returns to the district after a two-year stint as an associate principal at a Franklin middle school.

When Rick Elertson left the Whitnall School District two years ago to become an associate principal at a Franklin middle school, he said he wouldn’t be surprised if someday he’d be back. It didn't take too long for that to happen. On July 25, the Whitnall School Board approved his hiring as the high school’s athletic director and associate principal, replacing Jill Stobber. His first day was Monday. “From the day that I came here as a teacher, I was very attracted to the small town feel of the Whitnall district,” Elertson said. “I’ve really come to enjoy this community a lot and I enjoy the kids. There’s an easiness to the area – Franklin, Greenfield, Hales Corners, New Berlin. It’s a little unique entity right in the middle of it all.” …

Whitnall Quickly Names New Athletic Director

Only five days lapse between former athletic director's final day and her replacement's board approval.

With the start school and the fall sports season rapidly approaching, it did not take long for Whitnall High School to find a new athletic director/associate principal. On Monday, the Whitnall School Board approved Rick Elertson, who had been an associate principal at Forest Park Middle School in Franklin, as Jill Stobber’s replacement. Stobber, who was with the district for two years, finished her tenure with Whitnall on July 20, after accepting the athletic director opening at Hartford High School earlier this summer. “It was a good move for her because it is more of a focus on athletics, 100 percent athletic director,” Whitnall Superintendent Lowell Holtz said. “When (Hartford’s) principal called me up, I told them they couldn’t find a …
