From the ceiling to the floor Southridge Mall is getting a makeover. Mall Manager Mary Mokwa gives Greendale an update on the $52 million renovation.
Southridge Mall Manager Mary Mokwa said there is a lot of interest in the renovated mall at Thursday's Greendale Chamber of Commerce breakfast where she gave an update on the renovation. Not only did Mokwa give an update but she also gave some history on Southridge. Southridge opened in 1970 in Greendale. Over the years Southridge was a powerhouse as the largest mall in the state with five anchor stores. However, things started getting dim for the mall in the 2000s. "As time marched competition started to pull ahead," Mokwa said. "Mayfair renovated enhancing their tenant mix in 2005. Bayshore re-emerged as a lifestyle center in 2007. Brookfield Square remodeled and added restaurants in the stores in the outer parcels in 2008." Last year …

The Board of Trustees is set to discuss a proposed Panda Express at the former Leath Furniture site.
The Greendale Board of Trustees will be discussing a proposed Panda Express to be built at the old Leath Furniture building on 76th Street at Tuesday night's meeting. As reported earlier by Patch, the Greendale Board of Trustees approved allowing Sears to split off the property that Leath Furniture previously occupied from the main Southridge Mall site. The village hoped that might make the propertymore attractive to buyers. While the Panda Express proposal will be on the agenda, it is likely the board will refer the matter to the planning commission. Village Manager Todd Michaels said that Panda Express has given him the impression that they will start construction in the Summer. JSOnline's Tom Daykin reported in January that a source …

Recapping Southridge Mall this year and what's to come.
It’s hard not to notice all the construction going on outside of Southridge Mall. If you’re a mall-goer you probably also noticed the construction inside the mall. In December the Village of Greendale approved a $16 million dollar TIF district to help the $52 million mall renovation. Since then about five stores have renovated, Macys announced it opening, H&M opened its doors and Boston Store also jumped on the renovation bandwagon with the help of a $2 million dollar TIF district. What’s going on now with the mall renovations: What’s next: The addition of Macy’s is slated to be completed by the Spring of 2012 and the complete mall renovation is slated to be completed by late Summer 2012. The mall will continue to stay open during the …

Village of Greendale hopes to see Sears and JCPenney jump on the remodeling bandwagon.
The Greendale planning commission unanimously approved a TIF district of $2 millions to help the $8.5 million interior remodeling project of Boston Store in Southridge Mall. In just a little over a year the Village of Greendale has established two TIF districts and is about to establish the third for Boston Store to help the 76th street business district corridor thrive. The third TIF will help renovate only the interior of Boston Store, not the exterior. According to the proposal, the renovation will increase the value to $10.5 million. The first tax incremental financing (TIF) district was approved by the board for the construction project of a $17 million 90-unit senior housing complex along the South 76th Street Corridor, adjacent to …

Tax incremental district will be created to help Boston Store remodeling project. JCPenney might also be next to remodel.
A plan to financially assist Boston Store's effort to remodel the interior of its Southridge Mall location is taking shape as the Village's Joint Review Board began deliberating it Monday morning. The panel, made up of representatives from the Greendale's separate taxing bodies, was presented with the option to create of a third tax incremental financing district to help the store finance its $8.5 million renovation. According to village manager Todd Micheals, the municipality would commit about $2 million through a TIF district, which uses future property taxes from the development to pay off loans needed to create the development. "We anticipate that we will get some ancillary projects from it," he said. The TIF would be constructed …

mall is dated, but without new stores, Macys "C" store will just drive people to shop Macys at Mayfair. This Macys has very little compared to the larger Macys people are used to at mayfair. When you turn around a mall, get top of the line stores, not smaller versions!   more ›
