The board's clerk and treasurer are also different.
Monday's special Whitnall School Board workshop marks just the second time its new officers are in place in their new roles. Bernard Shaw was voted in as the board’s president April 29, beating Elieen Valaitis, 5-2, in a secret ballot. Shaw replaced Nancy Zaborowski, who declined Shaw’s nomination to return to that role. Shaw has been on the board since 2008 and was most recently its vice president. Valaitis, who has been on the board since last April, won a 4-3 vote over Zaborowski to serve as vice president. T.J. Anderson was the unanimous choice for treasurer and Stephanie Richter, who was reelected to the board in April, was the unanimous choice for clerk. The newly shaped board will tackle a handful of discussion items Monday, …

She will retain her seat after short-term fill-in Richard Kollauf bowed out and only one other candidate emerged.
One of two Whitnall School Board incumbents whose seats are available in the April 2013 election will seek another term. Stephanie Richter, who joined the board in 2010, will retain her seat for three more years after she was one of just two candidates to emerge Wednesday. But Rick Kollauf, who in November was chosen to replace Suzette Larson, opted not to run for re-election. Kollauf had been a board member for 12 years before choosing not to run again in 2010. The deadline to declare candidacy was 5 p.m. Jan. 2. The only other candidate is Hales Corners' LuAnn Bird, who was one of four people who interviewed for the vacancy created by Larson’s resignation. Bird formerly served on the School Board in a school district in Oshkosh. Whitnall…

Carlson will finish his only term on the board in April.
Former city alderman Don Carlson will not run for a second term as a member on the Greenfield School Board in April. Carlson, an active community member who attends countless school and community activities, filed his non-candidacy papers this week. "I will continue to serve the students and taxpayers of the Greenfield School District for the next four months and plan to remain actively involved in the community — city and school district — for many years to come," Carlson wrote in an email to Greenfield Patch on Thursday. Carlson's seat is one of two that will be available in April. Rick Moze, who was reappointed to the board this summer, is also up for re-election. He has not yet decided whether or not to run again. No other candidates …

The School Board listened to the administration's proposal Monday, but several parents are not in favor of the changes.
In the coming weeks, the Whitnall School Board will be charged with weighing the wants and needs of the administration and teachers against the concerns of several district parents. And it all boils down to altering a given school week by an hour or two. Administrators, teachers and parents discussed the 2012-13 school calendar proposal for 1 hour, 40 minutes at Monday’s School Board meeting, two weeks in advance of the board possibly taking action on the proposal. At the center of the discussion are professional learning communities, collaborative opportunities for teachers to meet on a more regular basis. But allowing teachers time to work together would result in noticeable changes to what the Whitnall community is used to. Under the …
