20 Candidates Interested in Greenfield Superintendent Vacancy

According to the firm conducting the search for Conrad Farner's replacement, the number is slightly higher than usual.

As the Greenfield School Board sets its sights on selecting a new superintendent, it will certainly have plenty of options to look at. Former superintendent Dr. Louis Birchbauer, who is now a consultant for the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, told Greenfield Patch on Wednesday that 20 candidates submitted applications for the opening created by Conrad Farner’s resignation in January. Birchbauer said typical superintendent searches yield 12-15 applicants. “It’s a high-end application pool,” Birchbauer said. “It’s a good candidate pool.” Birchbauer said size and location of the school district likely played a role in the higher than usual submitted applications. Birchbauer said he expects to have a list of candidates the School Board…

Stakeholders Will Have Say in Greenfield Superintendent Search

A series of focus group sessions have been scheduled for Feb. 21. Meanwhile, the board has re-shifted its focus to hiring an interim superintendent.

Parents, taxpayers, school staff and officials are invited to participate in focus groups next week, to help decide what the School District of Greenfield should look for in its new superintendent. The meetings are designed to let all stakeholders participate as district officials gather characteristics and qualities desired in the new district administrator, following the resignation of Conrad Farner last month. “It’s very important that we have everyone’s opinion,” School Board president Bruce Bailey said. “We ultimately have to make the decision, but we want everybody’s input. “We want to make sure we get the right person, someone who’s committed to the community and committed to education.” The five group meetings, to be held Feb. 21, …

Greenfield School Board Decides to Wait, Again

Board members put off a decision to replace former Superintendent Conrad Farner on an interim basis until Feb. 11, nearly a full month after Farner's last day.

Greenfield School Board member Russ Spahn was only kidding, but he might as well have been serious when he told Assistant to the Superintendent Erica Wendelberger to “just book the room for every Monday night.” Spahn made the joke Monday after board members unanimously decided to table an important decision regarding the filling of the superintendent vacancy for yet another week. On the agenda for the second straight week was a discussion and possible decision to “approve compensation for performance of additional duties related to the Superintendent and Director of Business Services roles.” Options include hiring an interim superintendent or allowing the duties of the superintendent to be fulfilled from an administrator within the …

Interim Superintendent, Business Manager Top Priorities

The Greenfield School Board decided filling both positions on a temporary basis was the right move, for now.

After being rejected by one of their own, the Greenfield School Board will look outside the district to fill its superintendent vacancy, both on an interim and permanent basis. The board voted unanimously in favor of hiring a search firm to aide in finding a permanent superintendent to replace Conrad Farner, who resigned earlier this month to accept a position in Cedarburg. “There’s been much discussion amongst board members in regard to the need to go out and see what’s available as far as superintendent position,” board clerk Cathy Walsh said. “We’ve had a tumultuous year. The board itself amongst each other hasn’t always seen eye to eye.  “But I think we have to be sure we involve all the stakeholders in the district: staff, students, …

Todd Bugnacki Turns Down Superintendent Position

Todd Bugnacki, the Director of Educational Services, thanked the board for considering him but said he decided to stay put in his current role.

Updated: 8:25 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21 Despite being second-in-command before the departure of former Superintendent Conrad Farner, veteran administrator Todd Bugnacki declined an offer by the Greenfield School Board to replace his old boss on an interim basis. In a statement read at the beginning of Monday’s School Board meeting, Bugnacki, the Director of Educational Services, thanked the board for considering him but said he decided to stay put in his current role. “I’m grateful for the show of confidence, however, I must respectfully deny the position,” Bugnacki said. “I believe it is in the best interest of the district for me to remain in my current position and help facilitate the hard work of our teachers and administrators. “It’s a …
