Resignations: Maple Grove Principal, District Data and Assessment Coordinator

Melissa Yow is leaving Maple Grove, meaning the school will have its third principal in as many years in 2013-14. The district also learned its data and assessment coordinator is leaving.

Maple Grove Elementary School will have its third principal in as many years after the Greenfield School Board approved the resignation of Melissa Yow on Monday. Yow was hired last June to replace Michelle Weisrock, who was principal for the 2011-12 school year. Yow’s last day will be June 30. “Melissa had done an excellent job for us throughout this school year,” Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Todd Bugnacki wrote in a memo to the School Board. “We are disappointed to see her go; however, under Melissa’s leadership and with the efforts of the Maple Grove staff, parents and students, the building has made great strides moving forward and is in a wonderful position to welcome a new leader who will continue with the …

Stakeholders Will Have Say in Greenfield Superintendent Search

A series of focus group sessions have been scheduled for Feb. 21. Meanwhile, the board has re-shifted its focus to hiring an interim superintendent.

Parents, taxpayers, school staff and officials are invited to participate in focus groups next week, to help decide what the School District of Greenfield should look for in its new superintendent. The meetings are designed to let all stakeholders participate as district officials gather characteristics and qualities desired in the new district administrator, following the resignation of Conrad Farner last month. “It’s very important that we have everyone’s opinion,” School Board president Bruce Bailey said. “We ultimately have to make the decision, but we want everybody’s input. “We want to make sure we get the right person, someone who’s committed to the community and committed to education.” The five group meetings, to be held Feb. 21, …

School Board Contemplates Next Move to Fill Administrative Vacancies

The ever-changing landscape of the Greenfield School District administration could become a bit clearer at a special School Board meeting Monday.

The ever-changing landscape of the Greenfield School District administration could become a bit clearer at a special School Board meeting Monday. Though an agenda has not yet been published on the district website as of 10 a.m. Friday, Board president Bruce Bailey said board members are expected to interview multiple search firms, one of which will help them find a permanent superintendent to replace Conrad Farner, who resigned in early January. Bailey would not say how many firms will be questioned, but said the meeting would begin at 5:45 p.m. and each firm would receive 30 minutes to state its case in closed session. Once the interviews are complete, the Board will convene to open session and will likely choose a firm, Bailey said. In…

Interim Superintendent, Business Manager Top Priorities

The Greenfield School Board decided filling both positions on a temporary basis was the right move, for now.

After being rejected by one of their own, the Greenfield School Board will look outside the district to fill its superintendent vacancy, both on an interim and permanent basis. The board voted unanimously in favor of hiring a search firm to aide in finding a permanent superintendent to replace Conrad Farner, who resigned earlier this month to accept a position in Cedarburg. “There’s been much discussion amongst board members in regard to the need to go out and see what’s available as far as superintendent position,” board clerk Cathy Walsh said. “We’ve had a tumultuous year. The board itself amongst each other hasn’t always seen eye to eye.  “But I think we have to be sure we involve all the stakeholders in the district: staff, students, …

Todd Bugnacki Turns Down Superintendent Position

Todd Bugnacki, the Director of Educational Services, thanked the board for considering him but said he decided to stay put in his current role.

Updated: 8:25 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21 Despite being second-in-command before the departure of former Superintendent Conrad Farner, veteran administrator Todd Bugnacki declined an offer by the Greenfield School Board to replace his old boss on an interim basis. In a statement read at the beginning of Monday’s School Board meeting, Bugnacki, the Director of Educational Services, thanked the board for considering him but said he decided to stay put in his current role. “I’m grateful for the show of confidence, however, I must respectfully deny the position,” Bugnacki said. “I believe it is in the best interest of the district for me to remain in my current position and help facilitate the hard work of our teachers and administrators. “It’s a …

School Board Unsure How to Fill Superintendent Vacancy

Conrad Farner's resignation is effective at the end of the day Jan. 15, and no interim superintendent is in place.

One week after accepting Superintendent Conrad Farner's resignation and forging a pricey separation agreement with him, the Greenfield School Board is undecided on how to proceed with filling the vacancy. Farner’s resignation is effective at the end of the day Tuesday. For hours in closed session Monday evening, board members debated the pros and cons of naming an interim superintendent but came away with no clear-cut solution. A statement issued by the School Board said, “The School District of Greenfield Board of Education is in the process of filling the Superintendent position and will be making a final decision that is in best interest of the Greenfield community in the coming week.  “We are grateful to have such a committed team of …

Donation of Nearly $20,000 Will go Toward Smartboards

Maple Grove's Students, Parents and Teachers Organization raised the money through various fundraisers.

Earlier this month, the Greenfield School Board accepted a donation of $11,257 from the Maple Grove Elementary School’s Students, Parents and Teachers Organization. Turns out the SPTO wasn’t quite done. On Monday, the Board accepted an additional $7,979, for a grand total of $19,236. A concerned parent

It's a great thing for our school. Maple Grove has been the only school in our district without multiple smart boards. We have had 1 1/2 smart boards at our school for years. Great job to parents! As an aside that extra almost $8000 came from the STP organization. So total our parent group raised that $20,000! Can you believe that?!   more ›

District's Teacher Academy set to Launch this Summer

The Greenfield School District has developed its own, week-long professional learning program for its staff and employees of other districts.

In an effort to continue the education process of its teachers and administrators, the Greenfield School District will launch its own professional learning program this summer. The Teacher Academy, which took more than two-years to put together and will take place June 11-15, is the first of its kind offered by the district, according to Director of Educational Services Todd Bugnacki. “It’s one of the accomplishments I’m most proud about while being in this position for the last five years,” Bugnacki said. Teachers will have their choice of week-long, multiple-day and single-day courses worth one to three credits. Topics range from a course called iPad for U to another entitled Effective High School Grading Practices. In all, the district …
