Updated 11:40 a.m. April 3 Veteran politician Tony Staskunas of West Allis has unofficially defeated entertainer and small business owner Tom Anthony of Greenfield in the race for the 17th District Milwaukee County Board Supervisor seat. Staskunas, 52, unofficially received 50 percent of the vote for a position whose constituents reside in four municipalities: Greenfield, Greendale, West Allis and Franklin. Staskunas tallied 4,452 votes to Anthony's 4,285. Some outstanding absentee ballots remain and could chip away at Staskunas' 167-vote lead. Two candidates are running in a special election April 2 to replace Joe Sanfelippo as County Board supervisor in the 17th District, which includes part of Greendale and Greenfield. Entertainer Tom Anthony of Greenfield and former state legislator Tony Staskunas of West Allis will face off for the spot vacated by Sanfelippo, who left the board after winning a State Assembly seat in the 15th District in the November election (Click on links for profiles on each candidate). Veteran politician Tony Staskunas and political newcomer Tom Anthony will square off for the 17th District Milwaukee County Board seat in the April 2 general election. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Anthony finished with 2,233 votes, or 46 percent, compared to Staskunas’ 2,107, or 44 percent. Retired police sergeant Al Singer managed just 10 percent (490 votes). Staskunas of West Allis, was an alderman in that city for 9 years before serving as a state representative from 1997-2013. Anthony, of Greenfield, has no political background but cites experience as a small business owner and the front man for the band The Tom Anthony Group. Al Singer of Greenfield has joined Tom Anthony of Greenfield and Tony Staskunas of West Allis after filing his nomination papers late last week. Singer, 58, is a retired Milwaukee Police Department sergeant and lifelong resident of Milwaukee County. Singer once owned Grand Slam USA, an indoor batting cage and basketball court on Howell Avenue in Milwaukee. Updated 10:20 a.m. Jan. 10 Greenfield residents who are fans of local elections might feel a little slighted come April. Only two candidates are vying for two seats on the Greenfield School Board. The same scenario will play out in the Whitnall School Board “race.” Even Mayor Michael Neitzke will run without opposition, leaving most residents with few choices as to who they want to represent them in local government. There will be at least one election, however, for some Greenfield residents.
