The new Walmart will not be mainly a grocery store. It will also carry general merchandise in a number of departments.
Greendale residents expecting a Walmart with mostly food items will find something quite different when they visit the store after its Jan. 23 opening. The new store will be like a Supercenter Walmart, though smaller. At 90,000 square feet, it comes inbetween the 154,000-square-foot Greenfield Supercenter on Highway 100 and the 40,000-square-foot West Allis Neighborhood Market, said store manager Jason Steffen. Greendale Patch toured the store Monday, getting a sneak peek at the location that will carry an array of products including a full line-up of grocery, electronics, apparel, toys, hardware, sporting goods, pharmacy and general merchandise. Steffen said there is probably less space for food items than what some of the Greendale …

The Board of Trustees is set to discuss a proposed Panda Express at the former Leath Furniture site.
The Greendale Board of Trustees will be discussing a proposed Panda Express to be built at the old Leath Furniture building on 76th Street at Tuesday night's meeting. As reported earlier by Patch, the Greendale Board of Trustees approved allowing Sears to split off the property that Leath Furniture previously occupied from the main Southridge Mall site. The village hoped that might make the propertymore attractive to buyers. While the Panda Express proposal will be on the agenda, it is likely the board will refer the matter to the planning commission. Village Manager Todd Michaels said that Panda Express has given him the impression that they will start construction in the Summer. JSOnline's Tom Daykin reported in January that a source …

Village staff and Wal-Mart are working on a construction schedule.
The construction of the new Wal-Mart at the old U.S. Bowling Congress site on 76th street is moving forward and should start soon. In July the Village of Greendale approved the construction of a less 100,000 square feet Wal-Mart that will include a 40% grocery market, pharmacy and two out lots for development by future tenants. Wal-Mart representatives have stressed that this particular store will be a neighborhood store meant to service the community within a 2-mile radius. During the approval process U.S. Bowling Congress owners and village officials said that it took…

Village of Greendale hopes to see Sears and JCPenney jump on the remodeling bandwagon.
The Greendale planning commission unanimously approved a TIF district of $2 millions to help the $8.5 million interior remodeling project of Boston Store in Southridge Mall. In just a little over a year the Village of Greendale has established two TIF districts and is about to establish the third for Boston Store to help the 76th street business district corridor thrive. The third TIF will help renovate only the interior of Boston Store, not the exterior. According to the proposal, the renovation will increase the value to $10.5 million. The first tax incremental financing (TIF) district was approved by the board for the construction project of a $17 million 90-unit senior housing complex along the South 76th Street Corridor, adjacent to …

Bren, I believe that you have been misinformed about Walmart's contributions to your community. Every year, Walmart donates millions of pounds of food to local food banks and food pantries, and consistently provides sizable donations that keep important non-profit organizations going! I am pleased to hear that you were able to attend a previous grand opening ceremony, and am curious if you were …   more ›
