Nowhere in the song did The Twelve Days of Christmas proclaim, "one check from the Wisconsin State Treasury," however it's what the state treasurer could sing if you're on the 12-day tour of the state to return cash to people who didn't realize they had it coming. In fact, according to the Wisconsin Department of the Treasury, there is more than $400 million dollars in unclaimed assets held by the State Treasury. This money comes from forgotten paychecks, insurance premium overpayments, utility deposits, forgotten bank accounts or stocks, abandoned safe deposit boxes and many other forms of assets that have been lost, forgotten about or that people did not even know they had.
