The hiring committee chosen to find a replacement for longtime successful varsity boys basketball coach Kent Kroupa did not have to look too far. In fact, they just had to look to Kroupa’s bench. Steve Kujawa, a history teacher and longtime Kroupa assistant, was chosen last week to take over a program Kroupa manned for 20 years. “It’s an honor, it really is, to follow in the footsteps of Kent Kroupa, who has been absolutely phenomenal not just from a wins-loss perspective, but for his work in the community and how he built relationships with the student-athletes.” Kujawa said he would bring that same philosophy to his coaching reign, focusing on molding solid citizens first, with the wins hopefully in tow. Whitnall moves to 14-2 in the league with a 57-46 win over Eisenhower on Friday.
With a chance to clinch the Woodland Conference title outright at stake, the Whitnall Falcons used a big third-quarter run en route to a 57-46 win over visiting New Berlin Eisenhower on Friday. Whitnall improved to 14-2 in league play, while Eisenhower dropped to 12-4 with one conference contest remaining. The Lions never led, but kept the Falcons' lead to five points or during the first half. Whitnall's quick, aggressive defense was too much for Eisenhower as the Falcons led by as many as 10 points late in the third quarter. Basketball acrobats, the Rim Rockers, provided the half-time entertainment.

The streaking Whitnall boys basketball team can clinch the Woodland Conference title with a win over rival New Berlin Eisenhower at 7:30 p.m. Friday, at Whitnall High School. The first-place Falcons (17-2, 13-2), who have won their last five games, own a one-game lead over the Lions (16-4, 12-3) with two games remaining. The last time the teams met, Eisenhower escaped with a 60-58 victory Jan. 20. High school officials are hoping to "Pack the House" and Patch will be on hand to capture the showdown in a photo gallery. The Falcons set up the first-place showdown with a convincing 69-48 win over Wauwatosa West on Tuesday. But basketball isn't the only big event for sports fans this weekend. The WIAA State Swimming Meets are this weekend, …
