Deer Hunters Have 29,000 New Acres This Season

A new Department of Natural Resources program has opened 29,000 acres of privately-owned land for hunting and other uses by the general public.

From the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources: This year, hunters have the opportunity to enjoy access to nearly 29,000 new acres of private land open to the public within close proximity of the state’s metropolitan areas. A new Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources video captures the success of the Voluntary Public Access program in opening up large tracts of prime habitat land, often connected to public land, for multiple outdoor recreational activities.  “Given the boon our small local economies see with hunting seasons combined with the need to continue our hunting heritage around urban areas, it’s really important for our state to have this successful program in place. It’s a win for landowners, hunters, local businesses and …

Hoffa seems to recall that during the recall effort, the liberal/leftist/Democrats were claiming that Walker was going to privatize all state hunting lands and force hunters to pay thousands of dollars to deer hunt in the future. Even Politifact smelled the BS on that false assertion, rating it Pants On Fire: http://www.politifact.com/wisconsin/statements/2012/jun/04/tom-barrett/recall-challenger…   more ›

Experts: VP Debate Likely Won't Change Minds

Although Paul Ryan will face off against a man who was sparring over public policy since the congressman was learning to talk, experts say it's a toss-up on who will win this debate.

With little more than 24 hours before the vice presidential debate, political experts say it's a true toss-up who will win, even after what many called a "lackluster" performance by President Barack Obama last week. It's not exactly a "Rumble in the Jungle," but the vice presidential debate Thursday does have the potential to be good theater. Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan will face off against incumbent Vice President Joe Biden at 7 p.m. Thursday in Danville, KY. This is the second of four scheduled debates before the election and is the only debate between the vice-presidential hopefuls. How Do You Feel About Gov. Walker Suspending Oct. Deer Gun Hunting?

Gov. Scott Walker says that hunters and legislators want Wisconsin to have a traditional gun hunt for deer. How do you feel?

Gov. Scott Walker suspended Friday the four-day gun hunt in October in Wisconsin’s south central Chronic Wasting Disease zone. “Legislators and hunters have made it clear they want Wisconsin to return to a more traditional season, which includes the nine-day November gun deer hunt,” Walker said in a news release.  “Eliminating the four-day October hunt in the CWD zone is one of the most simple and most effective ways we can show hunters that we are listening.” The first four-day hunt was held in 1996, but Walker’s legislation eliminated the hunt outside of CWD management zones in 2011, as well as the Earn-a-Buck regulation.  Rob Bohmann, chairman of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress, told the Associated Press, that Walker’s decision was …
