Glenwood, Maple Grove Elementary Schools Have New Principals

The transformation of the Greenfield School District administrative team continued Monday. One month after Lisa Elliott was named the district’s new superintendent, Dana Croatt has been chosen to be Maple Grove Elementary School’s third principal in three years, and Steven Newcomer was named principal of Glenwood Elementary School. Croatt will slide in for Melissa Yow, who took a position with another school district after her one year in Greenfield. Croatt has eight years of teaching experience and has been a principal for the last four years at schools in Arizona, including a K-8 school that she helped open in 2011. Greenfield Associate Principal Leaving for Greendale School

Tracy Flater, an associate principal at Maple Grove Elementary School principal, will take over at Highland View Elementary in Greendale after the school year.

The Greendale School District has named a replacement for departing Highland View principal Leni Dietrich. Tracy Flater, an associate principal at Maple Grove Elementary School in Greenfield, will take over at Highland View after the Greendale School Board unanimously approved her appointment Monday. Flater was in her position at Maple Grove for just one school year. "We are pleased to welcome Ms. Flater to Greendale schools," Greendale Superintendent John Tharp said in a news release. "She has been an instructional leader in her schools and we are confident she will provide leadership in educational practices as she connects with students and families at Highland View." High School Athletic Field Improvements on District's To-Do List

Greenfield School District administrators identified a handful of projects they'd like to tackle before the end of the 2012-13 fiscal year. Many of them are at the high school.

Think your spring to-do list is long? It likely pales in comparison to that of the Greenfield School District. Interim business director Ronald Nortier and interim Superintendent David Ewald have prioritized a list of 15 projects they believe the district can tackle before their brief tenures conclude June 30. The projects could cost as much as $1 million, depending on bids. Middle School projects are: High School: Maple Grove Elementary: Edgewood Elementary: Elm Dale Elementary: District-wide projects include filling cracks in various asphalt locations, purchasing a maintenance truck fro plowing and hauling and roof inspections for all buildings. Rick Moze, Robert Hansen Sworn in as School Board Members

Well, they were actually sworn in a week earlier, but were given the chance to take their oaths of office publicly at a Board meeting Monday.

Rick Moze encouraged community members to get more involved, and Robert Hansen thanked teachers and educators for being selfless and called them true heroes Moze and Hansen, both of whom ran unopposed in the spring election, were sworn in as the newest Greenfield School Board members at the Board’s meeting Monday. “We have so much to be proud of, but the work isn’t over,” Moze said in front of an audience of a few dozen people. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on the board and superintendent (Lisa) Elliott.” Moze, who has been a Board member for nearly four years, hoped others would take his lead and attend more school-based functions like concerts, football games and performances at the Performing Arts Center. “There’s such a…

Tougher Reading, Math Standards Mean Lower Test Scores for Greenfield, Whitnall

Despite changes in benchmarks for Wisconsin statewide reading and math tests, Whitnall students continue to perform higher than statewide norms. Greenfield school officials, however, say improvement is needed.

Students in the Greenfield and Whitnall school districts saw lower scores in statewide math and reading tests this year, but those changes are almost entirely due to tough new standards that kicked in this year. In Whitnall, 39 percent of the students who took the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examinations (WKCE) in November 2012 scored at proficient or advanced in reading. Elliott, who is the Director of Curriculum and Instruction of the Nicolet School District, beat out Dr. Lynette Zimmer, to replace Conrad Farner, who resigned in January.

Dropout and Graduation Rates for Greenfield, Whitnall Districts

See Greenfield and Whitnall's most recent graduation and drop-out rates, and how they compare to the rest of the state and surrounding districts.

Graduation rates in both the Greenfield and Whitnall school districts are above the state average, but so is Greenfield's drop-out rate, according to data from the state Department of Public Instruction. Statewide in 2011-12, 88.6 percent of enrolled high school seniors received diplomas, and 5.5 percent of students dropped out of school.  That year in Greenfield, 89.4 percent of students received diplomas, according to DPI data, and 7.4 percent dropped out of GHS. Meanwhile, at Whitnall High School, the graduation rate was 96.8 percent, with 1.4 percent dropping out. What Could the 2013-14 Greenfield School Day Look Like?

Interim Superintendent David Ewald provided School Board members with a working draft of the school days at all three educational levels.

Weeks after the Greenfield School Board decided to change school start times for more than half its schools, including a later start for the high school, board members were given a glimpse at how that schedule could look in 2013-14. Interim Superintendent David Ewald laid out a draft of when each school office could open and close, when teacher workdays could begin and end and when students would begin classes. The Board voted for a change, now “How is that going to work next year?” Ewald said at Monday’s School Board meeting. “This is a draft.
