Bob; I am having some extensive tests done that had to be scheduled months in advance. Tuesdays are bad in as much as I don't have access to a car and I won't know until the tests are finished if I'll have a chance to catch the bus and make it to the demonstration.

The response to your comment is again simple. There is no burden of proof. If a business is making no money, it pays no taxes. Taxes are paid only on profits.

If the business made a profit and achieved that profit by laying off workers, it has caused damage to society and there is nothing unfair by requiring it to reimburse society for that damage through marginally increased taxes.

Also, taxes are at historic post-war lows, so even a marginal increase in your hypothetical employer's tax rates would have minimal impact. It still would be profitable.

I find the information you provided as very disturbing. Have the firms you mentioned had to hire private security to provide a safe work environment? I am assuming the police are aware of the situation, have they proposed anything to alleviate the situation?
