ReplyAgreed...it's not a new addition to the 76 St corridor but it is new to Greendale as are so many sought after businesses. Just waiting for Greenfield to follow Greendale's lead.

ReplyI agree to wait. I'd like to see a larger development to bring in tax revenue. It seems as if our bordering cities(Greendale, Franklin, Oak Creek, West Allis, Wauwatosa, New Berlin, Hales Corners, etc) are constantly building new developments and attracting new popular stores and restaurants while we have empty buildings. I just drove past the wedding chapel/banquet at 92 and Forest Home that wanted to expand their business months back but their plans were denied. The building now has a for lease sign in front of it. If the plans are doable, I would like to see a hotel or conference center put in at 84th and Layton Ave or the land on Loomis. The tax revenue from hotels is incredible and they bring people to our community. Greenfield has about 9 interstate exits but has no high end hotels. For some reason they have all passed up greenfield for Milwaukee, Franklin, Oak Creek, West Allis, Tosa, and New Berlin.

On the article Federal Grants Could Mean DNA at Arrest in Wisconsin

Replyjbw- I personally don't know the science behind DNA and fingerprints but forensic analysts testify that the likelihood specific DNA does not match a particular person is something like 1 in 3 times the worlds population. So to find another person in Wisconsin with the same DNA when science at least shows you would need 3 times the worlds population to get another match is good enough for me. And the fact that many if not most of the suspects where recovered matching fingerprints are recovered confess to crimes makes me believe fingerprint comparison is very accurate.
BUT to stay more on topic...my concern also is what happens to someone's DNA if they are not convicted? If the DNA sample is thrown out then I'm leaning towards this being ok.

ReplyCorrect she did deviate from her lane into the other lane but I didn't understand why you said she was in a hurry and passing a car in the parking lane because that wasn't learned from the investigation. I'm assuming the drugs in her system, the texting, and the cellphone use is what caused that.

ReplyKHD- I don't disagree with everything you said but the driver said she DID see the pedestrian. I don't understand why you're saying the driver was in a hurry and passing in the parking lane??? Technically it is now illegal for new drivers with probationary licenses to drive and talk on the cellphone and it is also already illegal to talk on the phone contributing to an accident. It's called inattentive driving. The problem you have with making simply talking on the phone being illegal is you then SHOULD also make eating, adjusting a radio station/volume, putting on sunglasses, looking at kids in rear seat, manipulating vehicle controls such as windshield wipers, etc. all illegal. All of those things by themself are legal but when they contribute to dangerous driving they are inattentive driving which is already illegal.

John -I provide an article documenting Wisconsin law. I believe my article even has statutes and as I said its very simple to find the Wisconsin statutes. I KNOW without a doubt the Wisconsin CCW permit holders are not public record. If you don't want to believe me or read the statutes that's fine but this is accurate. You specifically asked for an article but clearly had no intention of accepting you were misinformed about the law and that your "police friends" can be criminally charged if what you say is true.

John Wilson- Here is just one. They are Wisconsin law and very simple to look up each statute online. As you can see it is not public record and even law enforcement by law are able to check the database only when a citizen with a permit or claiming to have a permit is with police. You'll want to go to one of the last pages for that topic.

I never said every law ever created was a good law but is have to disagree and say the purpose of laws is to make things right and keep the way of life that society seems is "right". Laws protect and keep society safe or at least that is a laws purpose. When someone breaks a law that are looked upon as doing something wrong "not right" so although I by no means believe all laws make sense I do believe that's exactly what laws are intended for.

There is no one to blame but those that drink and drive. Not because there aren't enough taxis, not because there is a parking lot by a bar, and not tax collectors. Private nongovernment organizations such as MADD are the ones that push for tougher laws and penalties...clearly not Wisconsin govt. Afterall Wisconsin has the weakest penalties and one of the highest number of drunk drivers. Would make sense that those things are related. The culture does have a lot to do with it but that is not a justification. I'm not saying it should necessarily be lowered to .05 but at least make our laws more inline with other states and perhaps the culture will change. Time those that drive drunk accept the personal responsibility for their decisions. (And DWI stands for Driving While Intoxicated)
