Man Armed With Handgun, Crowbar Robs Petco Monday

The 46-year-old Milwaukee man has a violent crime history, according to Greenfield police.

Greenfield police continue to investigate an armed robbery after some tense moments at Petco, 4950 S. 76th St., Monday night.

At 9:20 p.m. Monday, a 46-year-old Milwaukee man walked into the pet store armed with a crowbar and handgun, according to Assistant Chief Paul Schlecht. The man took three employees to a back office where he zip-tied their hands. One employee, however, was able to call police.

Within a minute after receiving the initiall 911 call, police had two squad cars at the store and were able to take the man into custody.

The man came out of the store holding his gun, but after a few moments, he dropped it and surrendered, police said.

One employee suffered a minor injury, according to Schlecht, who added the robber has a history of violent crime, mostly outside of the state.

“We can’t give a lot of information right now,” Schlecht said. “We’re trying to piece together where he lives, where was he before the robbery.”

No customers were inside the store, according to TMJ4, the first media outlet to report the incident.
