Some city officials believe the expansion of Boucher Nissan’s parking lot at its dealership on Highway 100 could help with stormwater management in a location of the city notorious for flooding issues.
On Tuesday, the City of Greenfield Common Council agreed to allow Boucher Nissan to purchase the 2.2-acre lot immediately to the south at 4201 S. 108th in order to expand the dealership’s vehicle storage and display capacity.
The plan calls for a 215-stall parking lot taking the place of a building that was once a sports memorabilia shop and most recently home to the Psychic Spiritual Center. The move will result in the razing of the building, a house in the middle of a major commercial corridor.
As part of the proposal, an underground stormwater storage system could be built catching storm drainage and drainage from the Wildcat Creek.
“With the addition, we hope to eliminate some of the stormwater problems there,” Alderman Karl Kastner said.
Alderman Thomas Pietrowski cast the lone vote against the proposal.
“One of my concerns is the house is going,” he said. “There won’t be any (tax) revenues generated there. I don’t think this is a real good use for this piece of property. There aren’t really any improvements being made.”
Mayor Michael Neitzke said the property posed development issues because the frontage on Highway 100 is narrow.
In 2011, David Ausloos proposed opening a Sudz car wash at the location, but backed off his request when it became apparent the city was not thrilled with his design concept.
