What Were Whitnall Graduates Post-High School Plans?

Survey results show an overwhelming majority of graduates were heading to a four-year college.

Sixty-one percent of Whitnall’s 2010-11 graduating seniors had plans to attend a four-year college or university while 10 percent were planning to seek employment upon graduation, according to results of a survey provided by the high school.

The survey, “Ready for College and Ready for Work: Same or Different?” was distributed to all seniors during the school year to determine whether the high school curricular and skills expectations are different for students intending to pursue college or the workforce, according to a memo distributed to the School Board by high school principal Anthony Brazouski.

The memo will be among the topics discussed at Monday’s School Board meeting.

Twelve students (5 percent) were to be employed upon graduation, 24 (10 percent) were going to seek employment) and one was entering job training upon graduation. Seven students responded “other” in regards to their graduation plans.

The statistics are consistent with historical information available through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, .

Brazouski said based on the statistics, there is no difference in expectations between students attending four-year or two-year colleges and suggests the same skills are needed in all high school students regardless of post-high school aspirations.
