Police Dogs a Part of Dan Jansen Family Fest Activities

DJ and Badger are expected to be part of a demonstration.

Dan Jansen Family Fest president Kathleen Doonan has her fingers crossed that the rainy conditions that have lingered over the area the last few days are long gone come Friday, .

According to TMJ4's Storm Team 4 seven-day planner, however, rain is in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday with highs reaching only 63 degrees. But you never can tell how things will shape up.

"(The forecast) changes by the minute," Doonan said. "I’ve heard anything from 60 degrees to 90 degrees. I heard 80s and humid and 60s and cooler. It’s hard to say. They say the temperature will keep rising through the week, but who knows?"

Optimal weather conditions typically result in larger crowds, and Doonan hopes a large turnout is on hand to see the Greenfield Police Department's K-9 unit demonstration at 3 p.m. Saturday. Dogs Badger and DJ, who was purchased by the department with money raised by the festival a few years back, are scheduled to give a bite demonstration, a new event added to this year's lineup.

"That’s a nice addition to the festival, something we haven’t had before," Doonan said.
