Greenfield's Eat Rice Making Name for Itself

City's newest Chinese restaurant already a hit.

A new Chinese restaurant located in the heart of Greenfield’s largest shopping corridor has Greenfield folks talking, and more importantly, coming back.

Eat Rice, a small restaurant owned by Sherry Zheng and her husband Lin Shao Chuan, has been open since July 28, but Zheng has already become familiar with some regulars.

"I have seen a customer already come in like three or four times," Zheng said Monday. "I’m trying to get more people to know about us, but the people that order here, I see them come back."

Zheng said her restaurant’s good, fresh food at reasonable prices has been the main draw so far. Lunch is served with a choice of three different soups, and Eat Rice’s chop suey, chow mei fun and Mongolian chicken and beef are stir fried and among the restaurant’s most popular items, according to Zheng, whose husband has 13 years of experience as a Chinese food chef.

"Everything was amazing," commented Danielle Blindauer on a Greenfield Patch story about . "I will be going back and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for awesome-tasting Chinese food. … (and) the whole staff was very sweet, welcoming, and very accommodating."

Zheng and her husband previously owned a restaurant in Minnesota but chose to move to Wisconsin to be closer to family. They found the Greenfield location, 7432 W. Holmes Ave., located in a strip mall just off of busy 76th Street and near the popular Mexican restaurant, through a realtor.

"So far, so good," Zheng said. "Sometimes it’s a little slow at lunchtime but dinnertime, it picks up. Sometimes lunchtime is very busy and dinnertime, it slows down a little bit."

Zheng said the restaurant, which is mostly designed for takeout but does have two small tables of four for those who wish to dine in, does not have a website but does have a Facebook page that is in its infancy. The restaurant recently mailed out partial menus to residents and plans to send out the full menu in the near future.

The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sundays.
