Update: Large Power Outage on Greenfield's West Side

As many as 2,100 customers are without power.

Updated 3:50 p.m.

Update: According to We Energies spokesperson Brian Manthey, all but three customers - Whitnall High School, Kindred Hospital and Everbrite - have had their power restored. 

"We hope to have them back in service by this evening," Manthey said. "We need to make repairs to some equipment that was damaged due to the cable strike, before power can be restored to those three customers."

Original story: Several business and homes near Highway 100 on Greenfield's west side are without power this afternoon.

, and are among those who "went dark" at 12:55 p.m. Shoppers at Walmart were ordered out of the store.

An employee at McDonald's said this is the second time in the last week the restaurant's power has been knocked out. He said employees there were told the previous outage was caused by .

Whitnall Superintendent Lowell Holtz, however, confirmed an incident at where a worker was thrown several feet in the air when the construction crew apparently struck underground wires.

"I think it was our guys out back," Holtz said of the cause of the outage.

Holtz said there were no injuries.

Students at the high school were dismissed at 1:30 p.m., according to Holtz, and parent-teacher conferences scheduled for this evening at the high school have been cancelled. 

, just across the street from the high school, has power, according to Holtz.

According to a We Energies outage map, several hundred people west of Highway 100 in Hales Corners are without power, as are small pockets up and down Highway 100.

"We are investigating a possible cable hit on an underground line," We Energies spokesperson Brian Manthey said. "Currently about 1,700 customers are without power. We are trying to confirm the cause and isolate any damage. We would then be able to restore power to most if not all of the remaining affected customers."

Manthey later upped the number of customers affected to 2,100.
