Most Local Businesses Taking "As Is" Approach to Sunday

Stores sticking with their typical hours despite Super Bowl.

To those who thought they'd go get groceries or do some shopping while everyone else watched Sunday's Super Bowl:

You're strategy should pay off.

Sunday's big game between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers is not affecting local business owners' decision to keep their regularly scheduled hours on Sunday despite the Super Bowl's approximate kickoff of 5:30 p.m. local time.

Of the 10 businesses contacted by Greenfield Patch on Monday, all of which are typically open later than 5:30 p.m. on Sundays, eight had no plans to close early. Those included national chains such as m, and , as well as , an athletic equipment and and apparel store.

Sports Authority will open at 9 a.m. Sunday, an hour earlier than usual, and will close at its normal time of 8 p.m. But should the Packers win, the store will reopen after the victory so fans can get their merchandise immediately. With a Green Bay win, the store will also open at 6 a.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday, earlier than usual.

, however, which is typically open until 9 p.m. daily, is closing at 6 p.m.

"It was a business decision, no doubt," said store director Steve Falkowski. "With the Packers in the Super Bowl, we knew we weren't going to do any business that night."

had not yet decided if it would stay open until 11 p.m. Sunday, according to an employee reached by phone Monday.

Also, the is closed all day, but that is for a mandatory furlough and not Super Bowl related.
