Ridge Community Church's Layton Plans Derailed

A plan to build a large church on Layton Avenue had been in the works for months.

Plans to build a in Greenfield have been scrapped.

Mark Weigt, lead pastor of The Ridge Community Church, told Greenfield Patch in an email that after months of planning and several appearances in front of the and , the 9500/9700 blocks of Layton Avenue will not be the RCC's first permanent home.

"Unfortunately we ran into some site development issues at the last minute that will prevent us from being able to move forward with the project at this location," Weigt said. "We are disappointed as we were really looking forward to moving forward there. The city, the sellers and everyone involved has been great to us.

"We have refocused our efforts on a search for other locations in the area, preferably Greenfield, to find a permanent home for our church."

Weigt did not specify about either the development issues or the new locations the church team is analyzing.

The City of Greenfield's Common Council paved the way for the RCC to build on the Layton Avenue site when it valued at $1.04 million from residential to institutional Nov. 1.

The church originally held its services at The Ridge Cinema in New Berlin and since has spent nearly two years at .
