Whitnall, Greenfield Cancel After-School Activities, Roads Slippery as Snow Falls

An accident is causing some delays on Interstate 894 near West Cold Spring Road, which happened at 1:26 p.m.

The latest winter storm has caused travel conditions in Greenfield to deteriorate Tuesday.

City streets, including major thoroughfares such as 76th Street and Layton Avenue were slippery as early as 10:30 a.m., about 90 minutes after the first measurable snow had fallen.

Division of Public Works Superintendent Dan Ewert said the department's entire plow fleet is out on the streets and will be through the duration of the storm.

In addition, all Whitnall School District after-school activities have been canceled, according to Whitnall High School athletic and activities director Rick Elertson. The Greenfield School District has also canceled after-school activities.

When it's all said and done, winter storm "Saturn" will have dumped between 3-6 inches of snow on the city.

According our media partners at WISN12, it is expected to snow through Wednesday morning. Wind exceeding 30 MPH could make for hazardous driving conditions.

As of 11:40 a.m., however, Greenfield Police Chief Brad Wentlandt said traffic issues related to the snow were minimal.
