Ed Kaczkowski was One of Greenfield's First Police Officers
Kaczkowski was also a founding member of the police union during his 24 years with the Greenfield Police Department.
Ed Kaczkowski, one of Greenfield’s original six police officers, died Tuesday.
The retired police lieutenant was 80.
Kaczkowski was hired along with fellow officers Jim Scheidt, Dick Karweik, Henry MacDonald, Phil Hall and Ernst Huck in 1962 when Greenfield first formed its department under late chief Clifford Ruck.

Kaczkowski retired 24 years later on Jan. 4, 1987.
He was promoted to sergeant in 1967 and to lieutenant in 1976. He received formal commendations for his role in two arrests related to a string of armed robberies in the Milwaukee area in 1976, and for thwarting a burglary in progress in 1980.

Kaczkowski, who served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951-52, was one of the founding members of the police officers’ union, and was a police tactics instructor at Milwaukee Area Technical College in the mid-70s.
According to legacy.com, Kaczkowski’s visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 15250 W. National Ave., New Berlin.
A second visitation will be held Saturday from 9-9:45 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 8500 W. Cold Spring Rd., Greenfield, followed by mass at 10 a.m. and entombment at Arlington Park Cemetery.
