Police Arrest Three Suspected Repeat Drunk Drivers in 2-Hour Span

Sunday morning was a busy one for the Greenfield Police Department.

The had its hands full with alleged drunk drivers early Sunday morning.

According to police reports provided by the department, police officers pulled over three men in three separate incidents from 12:34 a.m. to 2:38 a.m., including one man who has three previous OWI convictions.

None of the suspects had been charged as of Monday morning. The following are some of the details of each incident:

  • A 55-year-old man with three prior OWI convictions was pulled over at the intersection of South 33rd Street and Lynndale Avenue at 12:34 a.m. An off-duty police officer had observed the man driving the wrong way on Loomis Road and turning off his headlights while putting on his windshield wipers, according to the police report. The off-duty police officer called the Law Enforcement Center, and followed the suspect until on-duty police officers arrived. Later that morning, the suspected drunk drive could not remember why he was at the police station, according to the police report.
  • In the 11000 block of West Beloit Road, a 28-year-old man was pulled over by police at 2:31 a.m. when the driver of the car deviated from his lane after leaving , according to the police report. The man had difficulties reciting the alphabet backward during a field sobriety test. The man has one previous OWI conviction.
  • Just a few blocks away at the intersection of South 108th Street and Howard Avenue, Greenfield police pulled over a 29-year-old male who was driving with two passengers after police observed the man driving over the center line on Highway 100. If convicted, it will be the man's third OWI offense.
