'Incident' at Greenfield High School a Mock Crash

The Greenfield fire and police departments are participating in a simulation of a texting-and-driving accident on the high school's football field.

If you heard lots of sirens — or even saw a Flight for Life helicopter — around 9 a.m. at Greenfield High School this morning, don't be alarmed.

The Greenfield police and fire departments were participating in a mock crash demonstration for students, showing them the dangers of texting and driving.

The presentation is being conducted by Froedtert Hospital.

Check out Greenfield Patch throughout the day for photos and videos of the simulation.

This is the best idea, I worked at an ER for 12 years and now a police department, the kids have no idea how fast they can kill someone or kill themselves. Great idea to all involved.

This was horrible, as neighbors, we felt grave concern that there was a terrible tragedy that happened this morning, all the cops, ambulance, and even the helicopter, we were weeping and praying, apparently we missed the announcement that said this was just a demonstration, I thought there were really kids in those cars that were injured. I almost puked with fear for families. Guess their demonstration worked.

Hey Shannon, the mock crash was kept as a tight secret until just before the incident to amp up the shock value for the students. Even some of the staff members weren't aware of what was going on until the tarps were revealed. Check out the photo gallery, and hopefully a video!

You really thought there was a head on collision on the athletic field?

Great idea!!! I wish the parents were let in on this secret so we could have been there to see the students' reactions. Hopefully this really hits home for all students (and even parents alike), and it will make an impact in their lives and the roles they play on the road. Kudos to GHS for bringing this demonstration to our school.

Shannon, as a student, we all weren't aware about what this event was all about! It was pretty weird! However, if you could hear the narration, they were basically saying it was fake. LOL! :) If this was real, I can assure you, they probably wouldn't have had all us students in the bleachers!

Steve, go down to the "village square" burn a blue fist. Or, maybe in front of WAL-MART.
